I couldn't watch it last night so I recorded it on my dvr, I've been avoiding human contact all day so I wouldn't have it ruined for me, I'm going to watch it now and I'll be back in an hour.

What did you all think of it?

I don't watch the Sopranos for the simple reason that I never caught the first few episodes each year and I didn't feel like playing catch up. But all day today, all I've heard about is that damn show. From what I hear, you're going to be pissed at the end when your DVR suddenly craps out on you....

I think the final episode was perfect. People are always looking for the end, well in real life things dont end, they just continue to go on, thats what they showed you last night, that through it all, life goes on, there is no end, people die and more people rise to the top, its that simple

If you wanted a typical Hollywood ending go watch something else, granted the sopranos sucked for the past two years, ive watched the show from the start but last nights ending was perfect, we all got a glimpse of the life of Tony Soprano, just because the show stopped it doesnt mean his life stops

the guy who walked over to the bathroom was a little shady but there was nothing specific to suggest that somebody was going to kill tony
overall the ending was pretty good, great show.

totally agree with mkrongel. i'm a big fan and enjoyed the ending immensely. the people who are bitching about the ending don't understand the show and david chase.

Apparently if you look at the show credits the guy at the counter was [FONT=Times New Roman, Times, serif]Nikki Leotardo Phils nephew, also the black guys who come in to the restaurant were the same two guys who shot tony a few seasons ago.

I agree. I thought it was a great ending to a ground breaking tv show that never played by conventional rules.

I am listening to a radio analysis on the show right now, and they just said they checked and that is not Nicky Leotardo in that scene, just some random guy.

Yeah I heard the theory on that guy being Nikki Leotardo. There were also a few other things too, I found this on dead spin earlier... -
"So here is what I found out. The guy at the bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident. Absolutely Genius!!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail.
So the point would have been that life continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie in the characters in the restaurant. The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in the train store and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?)."

Supposedly that has been debunked though. Anyways, I completely agree with MK. His life will go on, and he'll keep having to look over his shoulder.

I was totally stunned and speechless when the credits rolled. I couldn't believe they'd end it like that. But after having a day to think it through I think it was a great ending and a suitable end to the series.

I read from another site somebody made an observation something like:

"In that last scene, you can see in several parts, they start shooting the scene from Tony's eyes. When his family is coming into the restaurant, when he's looking at random people in the restaurant, etc.. and at the end the camera goes off since he's been shot."

I think that's a good observation, wheather it's true or not. At the end he did look up at Meadow walk in, but all the other times when somebody entered the restaurant it was from his point of view. Which could prove that they were actually showing those scenes from his eyes, and not just some camera angle. The last shot was him looking up at the person coming in (Meadow) and camera going off. They also show Meadow having trouble parking her car, and coincidentally he gets shot just as she walks in, which could add more emotion to the scene.

"The real ending, the truth to this finale.

Tony gets killed.

it's all in the symbolism, as it always was with the show:

Remember the first episode of this season, when he's in the boat with Bobby Bacala? He says to Bobby: 'what do you think it's like when you get killed? Bobby answers, "I dunno, I guess everything just goes black."

In the second to last episode of this season, when Tonys hiding out in that house and he's laying on the bed with the gun, he has a flashback to that very conversation with Bobby in the boat about "everything goes black".

When Tony is in the booth at Holstens, the camera shows you "thru his eyes" every person that walks in the door.

First, he sees Carmela walk in.

Then he sees some shady looking guys come in.

Then he sees his son walk in....(remember they're showing these people thru his eyes)

Then there's the long scene with Meadow trying to park the car.....seems endless....

During that, the Italian looking guy at the counter gets up and walks past Tony, as Tony looks at him suspiciosly.

Then the guy just seems to walk past and go to the restroom....

Finally, after all that time, Meadow comes rushing in. Tony looks up (and thru his eyes) sees her come thru the door and then BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing.....silence........Tony gets shot in the head by the guy that went to the bathroom, and the last thing he saw was his daughter coming in. (Thus, the conversation he had with Bacala)

You see, if Meadow hadn't taken that long to park her car, she would've been sitting to the right of Tony in that booth, because his wife and son were sitting opposite him in the booth, and the guy never would've had a chance to whack him in the head.

1. The emptying of the pool at his house signifies "things coming to an end". The very first Sopranos episode, was all about the pool, and the ducks, and life.

2. The Bada Bing being empty also symbolizes "an end".

3. Dr. Melfi ends her time with Tony.

4. He urges Paulie to take over Silvio's position as his right hand man, thus leaving Paulie as the head guy in the end.

5. Tony visits Uncle June in the hospital and tells him to make sure that Bobby's kids get the money he has hidden, and basically says goodbye to uncle June (notice the tear in his eye)

6. Tony makes peace with the fact that Meadow doesn't want to be a lawyer.

7. Tony diverts his son from joining the army, and gives him something to look forward to in life.

8. Tony basically says goodbye to Silvio in the hospital. (another end)

9. Carmela purchases the old beach house, that she and the kids hid out in. Remember, Tony and her dream was to retire at the beach.....thus, this is where she'll go after Tony's death.

10. The cop Tony always talked with, was actually rooting for Tony secretly all along as he blurted out "we're finally winning" to the other cop.....they also show you that he was in envy of Tony's life, as he too was cheating on his wife with another female cop. (more symbolism)

10. In essence, Tony knew it was all coming to end since the beginning of the season, whether it be an arrest or getting whacked. He was getting tired of it all...But, when he finally had Phil from NY whacked, he figured he was safe. Thus, the mob rule: just when you think you're safe, there's always another guy watching your back.

So, in the end, he finally got his, in front of his entire family.....

David Chase has stated that he never had any intention of a final, bloody scene to end the show. He said, he alwas wrote the show thru symbolism, and music, and wanted people to put the pieces together without a typical ending murder scene....He also said there will be no movie.

All the song in this last season have had symbolism to the outcome.....especially the italian song played during the credits of an earlier episode this season. The song is about avenging the "father's death".....

The Bob Dylan song and the other songs in the final episode also had significance......"
