This is why your adwords got banned...

Yes, of course. That really explains why Google bans accounts advertising legit products that they don't have & will never have access to. Glad you shared your thoughts.

They had this in beta for secured loans in UK couple of years ago if not 3. Never happened. Now get back to work.

To the OP I don't think your right... I think what google is doing is allowing advertisers and affiliates to bid just as they normally would to be included in that "comparison chart" so that users can quickly compare rates on google before clicking through. Once they click through they are taken to a landing page to get the loan -whether its an actual banks or affiliates doesn't matter. I believe they are doing this to combat Bing's decision engine which keeps users on Bing.

For affiliates I think it will only increase conversions as users can see exactly what you are offering before they click through, which would ultimately mean less clicks and more sales.

I can't speak for all instances of 'legit' accounts being banned. Maybe they had 2 accounts bidding on the same keywords one day in the past. Maybe they had a product which Google didn't like. Maybe the automated banning algo is off. Like I said I can't speak for that.

BUT...

You said it yourself:

products that they don't have & will never have access to.

Say you're the product owner above. Why would they keep you around? All you do is ppc. That may be peanuts compared to a revshare/CPA model for another product that Google are an affiliate of. If it's more profitable in the long run to replace you, you're gone.

I don't know how they'll replace you (ie phase you out slowly or kick you in the ass one time). But they will if you get in the way of their long term cash.

Remember, they're now GOOG. They have to answer questions.

You, as the product owner are going to get a royal invite from Google to sit in a long iron cannon. They owe you nothing. They own the platform. They're a business and cash is king.

Yeah fair enough, this is all my thoughts. But look at the past relationships of Google with affiliates, compared to today.

Affiliates used to be loved. As much as I hate to say it, today Google hates them (if you believe anything else, you're kidding yourself). Watch this space man, seriously.

It'll be interesting to say the least...

The organic changes, like you showed above, will mainly only apply to local search.

Eg: New York Restaurants, New York Hotels, etc

Chances are this can not, and will not, happen for phrases like Acai, Resveratrol, etc,.

Most internet marketers won't own a New York hotel, but they will get paid to rank it. As with any local search. Keeping that in mind getting the number 1 spot takes the same amount of effort - how high the click through rate, and how many visitors the site gets, is another story. In other words you'll get paid the same amount for the shit you do - but that shit may not yield as high a return as before due to these changes.

Overall this isn't a big deal in terms of organic search - I'd start worrying when I see all Google listings entirely above the fold on keyword like Acai etc

I just knew my super secret search engine i rake up monies with ppc on would come to good use once google decided to start shittin on fools.....hehe

Analytics for free? Woohoo! Oh, wait, now Google knows just about everything it needs to about your business, what you spend on advertising and what you make.
I'm not gonna say I told everyone so because I'm too lazy to look up the posts where I told everyone so...

But yeah, I've always thought using adwords AND using their analytics/conversion tracking was a really stupid idea. If not for anything other than making it easy for them to ban you for even a minor violation of their TOS because they can see everything you're doing.

The way Google is changing their organic is now their new personalized search which I created a thread on yesterday. It will make it a lot harder to target a keyword and will try to force a lot more websites/companies to have to rely on PPC or other advertising more.

honestly the user interface looks so piss poor that a large portion of the more ignorant users will still revert to "pretty" and "professional" looking sites laden with stock photos and embedded flash videos explaining how teh mortgage process werkz!11

How about froogle?

Yeah, didn't exactly destroy the coupon/shopping comparison sites of the world, hell I don't use it myself b/c I think it sucks.

This isn't the end of the world, however it should be a wake up call to stop funneling those smug silicon valley fucks your hard earned dollars.

What if they remove them completely :338:

Shareholders baby..!

All that map stuff and the listings next to it are "Google Local Business" listings. Free and I can write and submit them for people in 20 minutes.

Of course for real tough words you need a lot of reviews to play. Those have over 200 to get listed.
