A girl I work with wants to trade me her Treo 650 for my Blackberry Pearl. She said she had a Pearl that she dropped in a toilet while drunk and when she took it to her Cingular store they didnt have the Pearl and the guy ended up selling her on the Treo.

The phone looks to be in good condition... I like the touch screen and the 1 letter per a key keyboard. I was just curious if anyone knew much about the Treo 650, are they good phones, etc?

Well I have heard the blackberry is faster then a windows based. I have the Motorla Q, and it is not the fastest thing out there, thats for sure.

Not to mention size... I love the size of the Pearl. A 650 in your pocket... very hard to pull off.

I dont mind the size really, I carry my Pearl on a pocket clip so thats a moot point as far as consideration goes.

Dave, I do agree with you, I cant even find the 650 on Treo's website without searching for it, Cingular/ATT doesnt even have it listed on the phones currently for sale...

I have had the 650 but upgraded to the 700
I love my treo 700 its a powerful phone, but the 650 isn't bad, get it

650's were great phones... 2 years ago. The 700's are standard nowadays - you can probably get a 650 off ebay for $100... I'd stay away from this deal and if you really want to change out, just sell her the pearl for a fair price and go buy a new 700.

Dave (thinks she probably got suckerpunched by the cell phone salesman trying to offload ancient inventory)

I love my 650. Slow? Maybe to some, but audio & video play fine on it, and calls/notes are easy. Add in tools like Vol Care and a few others, and you have a nice machine.

I was sitting at the muffler shop a few months ago, typing out niche keyword ideas (freestyle mindmapping) for an hour. Went home, sent it to my laptop (via IR) and tossed it into KeywordPad for massaging.

Do that with your normal phones!

Also, watch a few Divx/xVid movies off SD card, read PDF's, play some games, keep track of mileage, use VNC to remote/control other computers, use terminal emulation programs (both normal telnet and ssh) to connect into the unix hosts to edit files by hand, a fairly real browser for browsing the internet... I could go on...

Size is a little large/heavy, but that is what belt clips are for.
Internet is slow (little better than dialup) and can be expensive, but I generally use bluetooth to surf, no charges!
Add in a program like CallRecorder and you not only can record in/outbound calls, but use it for voice memos (great compression).

Anyways, with the Palm, you can't be known as a CrackBerry user... :-)

I have a blackberry pearl and its way cool!! Its easy to carry in your pocket, it has all the features....I'm not sure if its worth trading with Treo ;)

That sounds like a bad deal. Treo is kinda big and the Pearl is much better. The Treo 700 is a different story.

To each their own I guess

yes i fucking love my treo 650. its very versatile. can do alot of shit. its not limited to blackberrys network, either. check with your service provider to see if you can get unlimited data plan though.

Josh...and when you can't afford the unlimited data plan (apx. $50/mo) and just need WiFi...you're fucked. I bought the card and tried Shadowmite's drivers, and they don't work properly. That I can assure you of.

Jason

DomainReality is right. You need an unlimited data plan BUT it can get pricey. And theres no wifi :( but, check into that first

I would suggest you not to trade your BB Pearl with the 650, its not worth it. If it would have been the 700 instead of 650 then it would have been a different story. Pearl is way better if compared.

650 is awesome! I'll take it anyday over a Blackberry... but not an iPhone or an E90. ;) Ask her if she will go to bed with you if you take her 650 and give her your BB.
