Transferring domain from 1and1 to NameCheap/Godaddy

Hey so I have a domain at 1and1 (over 60 days old).

I want to transfer it to either NameCheap or GoDaddy.

Here's my question:

Will 1and1 charge me 6.99 (standard charge) to transfer away and will NameCheap/GoDaddy charge me 9.50 (w/e standard charge is) to tranfer in? Will only the transfer in cost money or the transfer out or both?

Why would you transfer from 1&1? They are awesome. 1&1 has private options for free, where GoDaddy and most other places charge to register a domain as private.

I've registered a lot of domains w/ 1&1. I spent 24 hours waiting for the domain registration approval to go through and then another few hours for the DNS changes to take. I thought that's how registering domains worked. I reg'd w/ GoDaddy recently to test things out, I was developing the site w/in 15 minutes. Free private registration w/ 5+ domains at GoDaddy. Depends on what your needs are I guess...

jake - i received a call from GoDaddy after registering a domain with them and they said at that time that they could transfer any domains I had out there to them for free. Don't know if that was a promotion or what, but if you gave them a call you'd probalby get an answer.
