I'm sure someone mentioned an app/software that turned of internet access for a set time, but I can't find it again.

I had my internet down for 2 days and I swear to God, I got so much work that needed doing on the computer done. Sure, when I got it back I had a lot of uploading etc that needed doing but that period of simply being unable to surf was very productive.

A one-click software with a time block will be easier than pulling the cable out every time.

Any ideas?

If you're a mac user get Self Control and use the whitelist, but empty. There's no way around Self Control either, rebooting changes nothing! Once started you can't change your mind. :D It's free as well.

+1 for SelfControl

I like it so I can whitelist my servers so I can still upload/test while everything else is blocked.

Plus it's free and open, unlike many others (freedom, concentrate, rescuetime)

don't see how pulling out the cable or going to network connection and disabling the connection is so time consuming :p

While it takes only a second to unplug a cable, it also takes only a second to plug it back in. Same problem with many other programs like the leechblock addon which can be easily circumvented.

SelfControl would be better named iLackSelfControl - you can't undo it. Once the timer is set you just need to wait until it hits 0.

Hm, SelfControl looks interesting but I find it a bit extreme that it even blocks your access after restarting. What if I REALLY need to get online? Otherwise it's of course better than freedom.

Phone or virtual machine / separate OS install

It's only for Mac users? Do they have more serious self control issues than Window users?
