U.S. Hikes Fee To Renounce Citizenship By 422%

This is a choice quote:

To leave America, you generally must prove 5 years of U.S. tax compliance. If you have a net worth greater than $2 million or average annual net income tax for the 5 previous years of $157,000 or more for 2014 (that’s tax, not income), you pay an exit tax. It is a capital gain tax as if you sold your property when you left. At least there’s an exemption of $680,000 for 2014. Long-term residents giving up a Green Card can be required to pay the tax too.

How about just leaving and telling Uncle Sam to fuck off?

Just wait until the new immigration laws come into place, that allow the US govt to keep you inside the country due to threat of terrorism. It's already in place in Australia, the UK is about to pass a law for it, so I'm sure it will hit the US soon.

They are responding to business signals, more and more people want to leave so you milk your cows for all you can before you lose them.

Bottom line here the fee is going from $400 some odd dollars, to $2500 some odd dollars. That's a small pittance of a fee for those leaving to dodge their taxes (remember that $680,000 exemption). And remember this is just the fee to process your paperwork. You still have to pay the actual tax

Lol at making the title "hikes fee by 442%" and then bury at the bottom of the article that it is only a $2k fee haha.

It's $2k for an interview and filling out forms. You think that's reasonable? I like how lefties always prattle about how businesses gouge customers. No businesses have ever gouged me as much as gov't. This is a good example.

Another example: Recently, I had to file some court papers against an asshole who totaled my car. The court wanted $5 to make a xerox and $10 to mail an envelope with a printout.

No, you shouldn't have to pay anything.

Rising demand means they can get away with it.

But since it is another clear violation of human rights, it has the unfortunate effect of making people want to flee the country even more.

You really don't want to be here when the final turd hits a fanblade. You think the shit that's going on today with the militarization of the police and ISIS and Ferguson and raising fees is bad? Wait until all of those Trillions of dollars no longer being used on trade between BRICS nations start finding their way back to your local banks... Hyperinflation is now completely unavoidable.

Demand is going to skyrocket bros; it's not even going to be a question of when or by how much but "if..." If the system can handle all those people fleeing for this bargain of an exit fee.

I'd bet it more than doubles every single year from now until there is no more USA.

If you can't pay it now and GTFO, I think the wise thing to do is to not pay it at all and just happen to be on vacation in a place that won't extradite you when the crash happens... Good luck timing that one properly though!

Wendy McElroy makes a great case that this year is in fact the last chance any of us even have to get out.

So what country would be a place where they won't send you back...that's not in the Middle East?
