Everyone keeps saying that affiliate marketing in the UK is 6mos to a year behind the US. Is there any truth to this? We all know how competitive the US market is and how agro we can be to get a piece but I cant imagine that in a market 1/4 the size of the US that its any less competitive. Does anyone have any experience buying media in the UK whether its email, search or display? Do you find inventory to be much cheaper, easier to monetize?

I'd say that in terms of sophistication, that's probably true. One thing to keep in mind though about marketing in the UK vs. the US... is that the niches I've operated in, I've found people in the UK to be much more price sensitive than in the US. Of course, that could really vary, but it's been my experience. In short, it's still hard work.

We've dealt with mailers in the U.S. as well as UK, most of whom agree with the sentiment that the UK market 'lags quite behind' the U.S. as far as regulations, deliverability, etc - meaning for affiliates/mailers, there is more opportunity. . .but as you say, the population is significantly lower so the 'ceiling' is not as high.
Vis-a-vis performance, we've seen some amazing eCPMs from mailers, but our experience shows that backend lead buyers are not as consistent. Also, an important thing to remember is that the 'business cycle' is much slower there, as UK-based networks, agencies, etc are not as 'agro' as they are here, meaning you may need to wait a week for a response, a week to set up account, a week to get campaigns, live. . .be patient, but seek out those opportunities as lawd knows it's saturated as all get out here in the U.S.
Also I do know that some networks have really good UK campaigns, Affiliate.com, AdMarketers, Intela, TerraMatrixMedia. Reach out, or if you need any contacts hit me with a PM.

Now that it appears there are tons (12) of UK affiliates out there, what are you guys pushing to make some quid. Same offers work in UK as US? Dating, diet, work from home???
havent really targeted uk to date. offer pages in $ for a lot of offers are an issue that ive spoken to some nws about.

No, because everyone in the UK is married, has a sixpack and are worth a couple mil.
Honestly, the UK has a population of 60mil. Try everything, you're bound to make a profit some way or another. We're not still living in the 90's ya know?
I just target the US at the moment, maybe premier league football teams could be a good thing to target? Could set up dynamic keywords like: "Arsenal Scores"

In the current climate, anything to do with easy money in the UK is probably good. I just got a sales call from some Indian guy trying to get me to pay £50 so that I could reclaim all my bank charges back, which is something that can be done for free for anyone who has half a brain and looks around on the internet - so that could be another angle that could be promoted online perhaps.
