Updated Facebook Ad Policy - No More Diet Ads

Imagine if they start spamming viagra to their own users, they will go down quickly.

Too many jokes.

Anyway, FB has to try and keep its users happy, eveb if that means appeasing some fatties. There's also the rebill issue, which I have a feeling may end up going the route of ringtones.

Fortunately FB is still so damn disorganised that diet ads can be displayed while they are sending out letters that such ads are banned.

But, complaints will sooner or later lead to lawsuits. So this will escalate to a large problem. Yes, they may reject 30k a day of revenue right now; but that's better than getting hit with a 5 million dollar lawsuit, that will also ruin their image. Then it will snowball, if one sued them, others will follow.
I agree, plus...they are FB...they lost $30K here, they will find it elsewhere because the have the power to pick and chose their advertisers. Tons of advertisers are dying to get through to that audience.

Considering that for the past month, 95% of diet ads have been rejected, I believe only $30k is being advertised on an average day.

I believe you're mistaken. :1orglaugh: Quite a few of us have accounts with well over $1k daily spending limits.

I run a bot on Facebook that scan though how many different diet ads appear. Pretty much it grabs the ad once it hits one of my 9 keywords. And guess what, there is an average of only 500 different ad's a day. Almost all led to landing pages. I then did whois check ups on the landing pages, and ended up with around 25-30 unique advertisers. So either way I sum up the numbers, I will still average $30k a day, considering not all of those 25-30 have big bugets.

Take not that those 25-30 advertisers are the ones who actually held up ads for at least 5 days, not just a one day wonder.

"Dear Judge, I am sueing Facebook because I saw a thinner person on there than I could ever be."

Yeah....

This is America, man. People sue and win for the craziest things. A man sued McDonalds for putting cheese on his burger, and guess what he won. A man sued a website for having very bright colors, which he claimed ruined his vision, again he won. And one case that relates to us is a woman who sued Google, stating that Google is supporting the promotion of deceptive ring tone advertising. Which is actually what got Google to start putting regulations on ring tones.

There are thousands of such cases a year, thousands and thouands. Someone can easily go to court and say that all the diet ads affected her self-esteem, since she was getting presurred to lose weight, and say that it physiologically affected her.

Don't pull numbers out of your ass when you have no idea, because that number is flat wrong

No, I didn't pull the number out of my ass. I actually have drawn data to make that estimate. It may seem that there are that many more affiliates promoting it on FB, but there really aren't. MOST never had an AD approved.

That said, ROIShareteam, I'm interesting in this script you mention.
Is that something commercially available? Or something you had made for you?

Something I had my programmer create. I plan to add some hot scripts in my network, after a few months of launching, but yea; I use a good amount of scripts to collect data. Really really helps when it comes to tackling niches.

Its funny that you guys are saying that they are losing out on all this cash. All FB needs to do is make some new stupid $1 gift and they are set.

actually Facebook lost $50M this year on rev of $300M. so... they aren't really "set" until they figure out a different model

Oh fuck, $873 million. Pretty crazy amount. That guy must have done some serious bank.

I would seriously doubt he did anywhere near that amount himself in profit.

This is clearly a loud "warning shot" to all future spammers of Facebook.

Here is some more of the story and what he actually was doing.

Facebook sued Guerbuez and his business, Atlantis Blue Capital, which Facebook alleges is fictitious, in August, and accused him of sending more than 4 million spam messages in March and April.

According to Facebook's complaint, Guerbuez acquired logins and passwords of Facebook members, in some cases by luring them to phishing sites where they would unwittingly enter personal information, then used infected computers to automatically log into their Facebook profiles and pump out spam.

The messages advertised Web sites owned by Guerbuez and others that offered male enhancement drugs, among other products.

30k a day? are you joking?

$30k/day could very well be the cost of removing acai ads, and not the amount of volume in the ads themselves. All those acai impressions are still going to be served, just with something else at a slightly lower effective CPM.

It would be like if the Bulls were scoring 100 points per game, and MJ was averaging 25/night. When he retired, they didn't start scoring 75 per game, because those possessions where he was taking shots just went to someone else with a slightly lower shooting %.
