Does anyone know what it's supposed to do? I've seen it pop up a few times and ask for my password, which I never created so have no idea what it would be, so I just click the "exit" button and the payment goes through anyway. If it's so easy to bypass the password what's the point of it?

It's an extra check by visa to make sure it's you making the purchase. Funny the payment went through when you hit cancel. I don't even remember when I initially set it up.

I thought that was for UK people only -.-

We have that here aswell, especially when I'm ordering clothes or something, I think it's the same as your Online Banking password. Or, there is another link there somewhere where you can set up the password if you haven't already.

Verified by Visa is an implementation of 3D-Secure, a technology built by Visa that adds an additional layer of security for your credit card transactions.

It's basically a secondary password registered with the Visa servers that has to be entered along with your Date of Birth for verifying the authenticity of your transactions.

So in worst case scenarios, if your card number is acquired by anyone with malicious intentions, he/she cannot use it for any internet transactions without going through the verified by visa. The catch, however, is that if the person knows your ATM pin, the VBV password can be reset on the fly within seconds.

Mastercard has adopted the same technology and calls it Mastercard SecureCode, JCB Cards also utilize the 3D Secure technology and call it J-Secure and Amex's implementation of the same is called American Express Safekey.

Seems like it would be useful, but I use this card a lot and I've only seen "verified by visa" on maybe 10% of the transactions. It also looks like if you just exit out of it, the charge still goes through.

Are you just making this shit up lol?!

It ain't just for credit card transactions, it's for Visa transactions (debit and credit card) with the intention of building trust and getting more of their customers to buy online. The password doesn't need to be entered along with a date of birth. It's just one password.

If someone knew your pin number, I doubt highly that they could change the VBV code in seconds. There are always additional security checks in place whenever you need to change these things.

If you don't have it set up - it probably just lets you exit out of it. Some merchants require that you have it set up though otherwise they won't process the transaction.

You should set it up.
