I woke up this morning pretty much unable to get out of bed. I could feel that I had fever, and also had this sudden urge to watch regular tv gameshows like The Price Is Right and all of that garbage. I took some Advil, and went back to bed. So I just woke up about 45 mins ago again, still sick, still coughing my brains out, and I decided to take 2 of these GIANT Vitamin C pills. Those fuckers better work too, 1000mg of Vitamin C in each. Everything around me is ringing, and I can't stop leaking fluids out of my nose. Wouldn't even dare have a cigarette either now, but oh well, back to bed.

Any advice on some type of medicine to take (aside for Airborne) to clear up the cold quicker?

Being sick at home on a school day used to be so much cooler.

the best medicine is to sleep. and take it easy with those pills. 75mg vitamin c is absolutely sufficient, you will piss out the rest anyways.

if the cough doesn't get better after 48hours, go to the doctor. you will probably need some antibiotics by then.

but until then: sleep. hot soups. sleep.

oh yeah. and a "wunder"-medicine from over here: hot beer :) cook it, drink it.
makes you sweat like a bull and sleep like a baby :D

My doctor doesn't like to prescribe drugs, so when I had the flu a few months ago, he sent me home with elderberry tincture. Apparently it has antiviral properties. I took that to shorten the duration and I took a pseudoephedrine (decongestant) formula with antihistamines to knock me out so I wasn't conscious of how sick I was. (BTW, pseudoephedrine is the good stuff they keep behind the counter at the pharmacy - don't bother with anything out on the shelves.)

I also used getting sick as an opportunity to quit smoking again. I think that's the main reason I got over the flu quickly, and even though I'm insanely jealous of all smokers everywhere, I have to admit I feel a lot healthier after not smoking for three months.

I'm smoking right now, I'm in flavour country

Lucky bastard.

Oh sweet cigarettes, how I miss you. If I can just make it to 70 (or get a terminal illness), I'll be right back to more than a pack a day.

(You know you're an addict when you're hopeful you'll be diagnosed with a terminal illness so you can smoke without worry.)

Yeah I know what you mean, I want to quit and I keep telling myself I'm going to for my daughter, if it wasn't for her I'd smoke a pack a day and die happy at 45.

I just quit last Monday. Had like 10 ciggs during the next 3 days, but I haven't had a single one since Wednesday. The cravings come and go... I used to smoke 3/4 to a pack a day.

Wow, lot of smokers. Stop doing that shit, don't you watch those commericals of that guy with lung cancer?

Here is the secret to immunity:

Don't vaccinate (ie. for flu)
Drink tons of water and water only
Fluids coming out of your nose? Blow everything out
Eat tons of fruits
Eat home cooked meal, make sure you're stuffed
Rest

Works everytime

I agree, add the chicken soup to the list too.

Ride out the cold and build the immune system. I love thera flu-non drowsy lemon!
Best immune builder....emergen-C fizzy drink. Bob Schmuck didn't even get a cold through his chemo treatments with that stuff. I rarely get sick.
