What are ways that can hurt your site?

I was wondering what some of the most common things are that can keep your site from ranking high

- Not having enough backlinks for the keyword you are trying to rank for.
- Poor site optimization
- Getting backlinks from sites that aren't cached in search engines
- Having a new site...or a site that has been penalized for doing something shady
- Duplicate content

There are a lot of reasons. If you have a new site, work on building good backlinks and on your website optimization. Add relevant content on a regular basis.

posting too money backlinks at once. having too high of a percentage of backlinks from social bookmarking sites. not having enough deep links.

dont link out to anything if you can avoid it. especially not spammy sites.

Don't drop a ton of links on a young site, wait until the site has some age before you get link happy.
