What are your thoughts on a basic income instead of welfare programs?

I know we have some armchair economists and and a few experts on monetary policy on the forum, so I was just wondering what were you guys thoughts on having a basic income instead of a bunch of welfare programs. Apparently, welfare programs are pretty efficient, but it might be more efficient to just give people money instead.

I've only heard one scheme that might work... All other attempts are foiled by governments' inherent ability to do bad stuff.

You guys are going to freak when you see this, but trust me, it's not some Al Gore-lovers' plan... It's a way to force the corporations of the world to pay the people for them polluting directly instead of doing Cap & Trade through the governments... And it's actually quite fair & logical!

I'm not 100% sold on the need for it, but if it is done, then governments obviously can't do it to us, so I'm more for it than not.

Produce or die. Just like nature intended. Fucking libs...

Don't you think we should work towards distancing ourselves from the brutality of nature (as a species), considering we're the only species that truly can?

Or are we still using a warped view of Darwinism to excuse what are otherwise morally devoid actions, symptomatic of the selfish arrogance that is slowly scrawling the signature on our ticket out of the annals of geological history?

I sell shit that people don't need to people that can't afford it. I am the definition of selfish arrogance. What was the question again?

Neither. Eliminate all social welfare programs. The community will take care of the truly needy. /thread

I like you.

Really though, stop bastardizing the theory of natural selection because using it in a social context makes about as much sense as trying to build an atomic bomb out of coal would.

Stealing money from productive people to give it to unproductive people is pretty brutal.

Then again, if you think it's a good idea feel free to setup an entirely voluntary (i.e., non-government) program for this.

If the government did that, I would probably open a liquor store that would sell nothing but bum wine and malt liquor. Profits would go towards getting the fuck out of the country permanently. This sounds like what the government up here in Canada does for a lot of natives already, the effects are clearly and obviously fucking negative.

Take your 6th form Marxism and fuck off home to Russia you commie bastard.

This is WF bro: Individualism > Collectivism.

There are no acts of altruism, self-interest dictates all.

Oh, and the state is a cunt as well in case you didn't get that part of the memo. :)

heh, I totally forgot about Big Bear. And what is it again? Colt 52, or something?

Remember those good ole Alberta days. Going home from work, some Indian drunk as hell on the street, Big Bear in one hand, street sign in the other hand because he can't stand by himself anymore. lol, good times.
