What do you look for in a design service?

I've been here for a while, took a leave of absence and now I'm back and trying to improve my service. I'm really curious to know what people are looking for when they work with a designer. Hopefully some feedback will not only help me but any of the other designers on here trying to make a living.

An extensive portfolio that demonstrates the designers capabilities. I like to see that the designer can accomplish what I ask from them.

Different designers also have different strengths. You can usually see this in there examples and for certain projects use a certain designer.

Designer 1) might be great at doing professional business designs and logos for companies.
Designer 2) might do really great work for more social geared sites.

Having set prices also makes people more comfortable to contact a designer.
