Barton Smith takes a look at what facebook could look like with a lighter, more open, full width design that embraces media and social planning.

It's gorgeous.

Facebook Facelift - Home, Profiles & Publisher on the Behance Network

He admits it is based partly on Skimmer, which is an Adobe Air application that lets you integrate several social media platforms into one attractive interface. I've just downloaded it myself to give it a try so I can't comment yet, but it looks promising.

Skimmer - We Are Fallon

That looks very streamlined.

I wonder if the easier it is for the site to be navigated, if people will spend more (easier to use, less frustration) or less time (ease of use means they check what they want to check on the site and move on) for the site overall?

Oh... wow. Looks like Facebook got owned as far as web design is concerned. Great find, Fatbat, +rep

Facebook = Major waste of time.

Why do I want every asswad I didn't like in high school trying to get me to add them as a friend? Oh yeah, now I remember, I don't. That's why I'm probably the only person in the world who stays well clear of Fagbook.

No shit. Never got on the FB bandwagon. It's just another stalker network.

Facebook is great. I organize events and trips with my friends all the time and it works fucking fantastic. I get everyone's RSVP visible to me and everyone in the group, there's a wall to answer questions and plan, and it only takes a minute to invite all your friends.

With status updates I'm able to ask all my friends a question and get comments with answers right underneath.

With Facebook chat if I'm bored I'll just see who's on, letting me know who else might just be chilling. I'll chat them and then we'll hang out...much easier than sending out a bunch of text messages not even knowing what other people are doing.

If you're really going to say the reason you don't go on Facebook is because it's just a "stalker network" and people you don't know add you (which has an easy solution - ignore the request), I think the problem would be you lack the friends to communicate with, not Facebook itself.

facebook is the nut, if u ask for cell number some girls can say no, with facebook you have 100% of success.
And if things go wrong you can always use photos to jerk of or search for hot friends....

the future is now

I have to admit that the design isn't bad. However, I only log on to Facebook like once every 2-3 months, so I'm not the ideal user to speak on it. I better leave that to the fanboys and girls.

Most of the major sites are inferior when it comes to web design, so no surprise there. Kind of makes you wonder just how far does the design impact visitor's loyalty and to which point will it have an adverse effect.
