What good keyword research tool would you recommend.

I really don't understand the "competition" bar with google keywords. When I go to the SERPS for those keywords, major players are hogging up the front page. I love SERP IQ's competition function, but only get a couple of searches a day and I'm just starting out. Any help? Thanks.
Competition bar is for adwords, not for SEO.
For keyword research, I personally only use Google's keyword tool for finding, then majestic SEO for analyzing competition.
Though, I plan on giving keyword scout a try soon.

semrush offers both keyword research and competitor analyses easily
the price is scary
but i found this SYNAPTIUM guy on fiverr that will do the research for you and then export the results to you within the hour or thereabout.
so one way or the other i use semrush and its pretty cool.

keyword research pro.they are recommended by ppccoach.they are down for now,working on new version but the software is really good.

I love Google Adwords, all the other tools just scrape it from Adwords anyway and the competition abilities that those tools have are just to cry about as they don't take internal links into account at all.
Often you see Amazon ranking at page 1 with 0 links, but the page does have like PA60, so that indicates that there is a ton of internal linking going on and they are just as important as external links. So the competition checkers are as flawed as they can be.

1. SemRush - SemRush is by far the best tool I have used for keyword research. You can see almost everything you can imagine about all your competitors keywords. You can also get an almost endless list of keywords almost instantly with any search. For example I searched money and instantly got a 10001 long list of keywords including the term money with incredibly useful data which you can save and keep even when you are not a member. This one offers a free trial though you need to give a credit card and cancel before its done.
2. Keyword Country - Keyword country is great. you can search and sort by almost any data types and with all sorts of ranges. You can search by CPC for keywords which is just ridiculous. This one also offers a free trial. Well worth checking out.
3. Market Samurai - From my experience market samurai was my first and favorite keyword tool for a long time and it even comes with a free trial.
4. Adwords Keyword tool - I wasn't much of a fan of this one at first but then I noticed if you log in you can see up to 800 results and use it pretty well to find some good keywords.
Generally I use several tools together to do my research as I find each has its strengths and weaknesses.
