I don't know if any of you remember him, but StevePavlina.com (warning, anything you read here now is insane) of Dexterity.com fame had some of the most interesting/well written/useful personal development blogging on the Internet.

...until about 2 years ago, when he went fucking nuts. Like... really... fucking... nuts: Shifting Your Vibration to Manifest Your Desires

Now his wife was always nuts (or a genius, she does bill like $9000 an hour to pretend to talk to the dead for you), but this guy had some great shit to say, and seemed to be pretty level headed (albeit, open minded... to deal with the wife shit).

Maybe he just broke. What I think is more likely though, is he started to get popular, everyone told him how great he was, etc., and then he started believing that what he thought was a good enough reference to prove something true. IF I THINK ITS TRUE THEN IT IS CAUSE I'M THE GREAT STEVE PAVLINA.

but really. any other great lifehackers/personal development bloggers around? My favorite part of Pavlina was the experiments he did on himself, like Polyphasic Sleep

Tony Robbins is great - gives you insight in the way the human mind works, how you can establish thinking patterns and break others. I dropped smoking cold turkey after 6 years applying his stuff: gone from smoking 30-40 cigs a day to daily 60 minute cardio routines, dropped weight, started bodybuilding and I'm planning to run a marathon next year.

Once you listen to a couple of seminars you've basically heard them all - still great stuff though.

I'm pissed, I really liked his practical articles like waking up early, or the time management one, so I bought his book.

Turned out to be a bunch of gay gobbledegook. . .what the hell is oneness and why am I reading a chapter on it

Never bought his book, but that's how I feel. He went from practical, down to earth, real world shit, to "LA LA LA I LIVE IN AIRY FAIRY LAND WHERE I BELIEVE THINGS AND THEY'RE TRUE MANIFESTED INTENTIONS LA LA LA"

I think it had more to do with the fact that The Secret was released a few years ago and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, and perhaps, one of the most commercialized self-help products in recent history.

He seems to have begun gearing his blog more towards this new audience just as the Secret was picking up steam. He created his own niche in giving a more rational perspective to this irrational "science".

I think he saw an opportunity and ran with it. He's a smart guy. I'll give him more credit.

You are not a physical being in a physical universe. You are an energetic/vibrational being in an energetic/vibrational universe. You are both a transmitter and a receiver of energy.
One of your greatest challenges as a human being is learning how to live as a vibrational being in a vibrational universe.

idk if that even falls under the realm of pseudoscience. that's more like cult theology. or at best newage bs.

I remember reading a post a couple years ago about the afterlife. he said that it was impossible to know if there was an afterlife or not, but in his mind, the evidence leaned towards there being an afterlife. I thought it was a very intellectually mature, rational way to look at the issue. now he's stating as fact that I'm an energy being and I need to focus my vibration whatever to the universe. it's a bit disappointing to see someone so intelligent to go down that path.

but who knows, maybe he's the one who's right and we're crazy. maybe we should invest in fairy wands and dance around at the equinox.

Does he really dance around with wands? lol. IDK, I know nothing about him. But the idea that matter is energy and that we are in essence energy and vibrations is hardly off the wall fairy BS, with no scientific evidence. Rational is great if one is convinced that the world is rational. It doesn't seem so rational to me. And I don't even have a wand.

You probably liked it before you read this thread

I heard these two took him:

Yeah, I agree. I was like, this really wasn't the Steve Pavlina I was looking for. So I started reading The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss (Tim Ferrisses blog). Its geared toward a lot more productivity that Steve's is at the moment. With that said, I enjoy the zany post every once in awhile, but 2's company, and 3's a crowd.

My friend, you have failed so spectacularly that it isn't even worth digging for a cute pic to drive the point home for you. So sorry.

uh... kierkegard!.... camus!

we're all naming off philosophers right?

You don't deserve to be exposed to this level of awesomeness but I'm feeling generous.

Yeah this is all based on The Secret stuff.

IMO its a marketers goldmine - the self help niche that is. He knows what he's doing.

For the record we technically are "energy beings". Should have learn this in highschool?

Ug. That Secret shit is the biggest-bumble-fuck-of-an-emperors-new-clothes-sheep-baah-phenomena if there ever was one. Really. The rage I feel when I see that shit cannot be described or even attributed to anything remotely logical. But there it is.

In other news, I now see why people hate hyphens. That shit is teDIOus.
