What is the best way to split test ads?

Hey all, I've been doing affiliate marketing for a few months now. I've gotten some conversions, but never made a profit. I think my problem is that I haven't been able to optimise any campaigns.

The current offer I'm running is for a game download. I've tried split testing different images, headlines, ad copy and targeting, but I just haven't hit that magic combination yet, so I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. I know it's not the offer, since it's a highly converting one. I've just been direct linking my ads to the site since it's just for a game, so I haven't been messing with any landing pages or anything. My budget for it hasn't been that great since I'm just starting out. Is it just a matter of throwing more money at it and testing more? Also, What's a decent amount of impressions/clicks do you collect before you can analzye the data accurately?

And this might be a dumb question, but when you're split testing, is it best to create separate campaigns for each different ad, or create one campaign with all the combinations of ads? I know on Facebook, you should create separate campaigns, but is that true for POF as well? Any help would be appreciated guys.

are you using t202 ? if so you could attach sub ids and do keyword passthrough;
you need some conversions to optimize, I'd suggest creating more ads/campaigns until you start seeing them come in

also, make sure you are targeting the right demographic, if its an offer you know converts, and are not getting conversions after spending 3,4x the payout, you might be targeting the wrong audience

I think its also important to only change one thing when you are doing each stage of split testing... If you switch too many variables its impossible to know which variables are helping and which are hurting... Also I think imkazu is right.. if you've dumped too much $$ into it then move on to another idea... finding the right demographic is key... Also for your specific question I would run your campaigns on POF the same way you do on FB... I've found they too be very similarly performing platforms... but I would focus on being profitable on one platform before your start testing the same campaigns on other platforms.. Hope that helps...
