What methods would you use to promote a totally new product/service



Depends what you're promoting... perhaps you should pay to create a viral youtube video promoting the product?

Find some mailing lists concerning iPhone and Android users, start a twitter account and gain interested followers, Facebook fan pages, start a website and make your own following by releasing interesting facts on the iPhone, Android, and encourage them to signup for your mailing list with free giveaways.

Yeah, social and mobile marketing full on. Make sure it's good though. You don't want to invest, create buzz and than fail awesomely! If you do let us know so we can laugh ;)

That's a great idea. You just need to make sure they pick it up. Poke em or offer a good profit margin. Do both to make sure it works right.

Yeah I know it's hard to give advice without all the facts, your mail list idea is cool, will def. give that one a go.

id just put it on private and let an AM pick out some top trusted affiliates to run it until I got it perfected.

Once all done up, release to mass

Even better, find all the forums these people visit and buy some ads.

You let the affiliates push the DL and service for you.. works everytime. This is how ringtones work amiright?

also, ive sold a fuckton of digital goods in the UK and Ireland for that fact.
 
You could possibly look into offline advertising. Ad hustler had a good case study with bus banners. Afterall you are targeting mobile users...
