I'm looking for web 2.0 blogging platform options that have nice designs and are also super easy to work with for non-techy persons.
Should be super straightforward, not anything like Weebly for example, toooo many options...

Keeping that in mind... what are some of the better options?

Nah but if srs, why not just set up everything techy yourself, and then write instructions how to post on some sticky notes?

Wordpress - definitely. Whatever you do keep crusty socks away from Drupal.

Uploading content to a client's Drupal site has been the bane of my existence for the past week. Nodes, modes, chodes. What the fuck - I downloaded guidebooks to Drupal and it's like I'm taking a course in bullshit. Drupal help sought.

Ikr, but most of the blogging platforms that aren't WP are like that.

I just started using Anchor CMS. All my blogs from now own will be made with this instead of WP (not client sites unless they request it). Literally life changing.

Why do you prefer it to Wordpress?

I don't really have time to mess around with it. Is it faster/easier? Easy to configure, say optin forms and sidebars?

I'm checking out the site, haven't found any example sites yet.

It's the leanest (I think the whole CMS is something nuts like 125kb). It cuts out a lot of the crap that WordPress has in it.

I just downloaded a Bootstrap Anchor CMS theme and I was off. I'm a noob with HTML/CSS/JS/PHP and I'm doing ok with getting by. The way they lay it out is similar to WP in a lot of ways so that helps.

Part of the reason the sites are super lean though is there's no plugins/shit that people add to it. You're starting with something very basic and adding only what you need. Part of the charm though is how easy it is to add things dev wise.

For your dev things (opt in/sidebar) it depends how conditional you want to make them. You would have the same amount of pain/if not less with Anchor CMS compared to WP dev-wise for this.

Since researching for a lean CMS, Anchor CMS has had the biggest community, easiest to work with, and one of the most lean.

Pros:
  1. Seems to be catching on in popularity.
  2. Decent sized community compared to the other lean CMS's I was checking out.
  3. Easy to work with compared to other CMS's I saw like: Jekyll • Simple, blog-aware, static sites (plus similar layout to WP).
  4. Super lean
  5. Seems to be updates happening progressively (compared to others like Wolf CMS).

Cons:
  1. No media uploader (yet)
  2. No plugins (yet)
  3. They have some annoying shit with their url strings like /posts/ and /category/ in the string. From what I understand it might be a pain to remove this.
  4. Theme selection is small, but I found a Bootstrap based theme so I was happy.

Would be happy to Skype with you if you wanted to see the admin/ftp n' stuff.

Wordpress. But as someone who has set up blogs for more than one girlfriend I must warn you that you may be wasting your time. Forgive me for speculating, but a lot of girls go on pinterest and shit and go on popular girl blogs and think "hey I like takin pictures and shit I can do that too and finally quit my shitty daycare job and get free shit from companies I like!" and then they blog like two things and lose interest when they're not a world famous blogger overnight.

Just saying.

Like many others I would also suggest Wordpress. I would say take your time and choose a premium theme that offers the functionality you desire. It will be worth it in the end as opposed to using one of WP's free themes.

Good Luck.
