When do search engines update?

Can anyone give some estimates and information about the "usual" routine for updating results and backlinks?

I believe it's an ongoing process. The spiders are always crawling the web. The Search Engines never rest.

So to answer your question, how quickly your backlinks and results are updated... well, it varies. How's that for vague?

If you're talking about the Google toolbar PageRank update, it's unpredicatble (like supposedly the end of July it was supposed to happen last) but I don't think it's happened yet...

search engines run multiple servers all the time.

PR updates several times a year and one is due right now.

The frequency of the robots hitting your site will depend on how attractive your site is to them. Some sites are crawled many times in one day and others months apart.

Check your weblogs and see the robots history. (AW stats does this well)
