I personally wouldn't recommend prescription antidepressant due to side effects.
I'm feeling a bit down myself for about a month now. No motivation to do anything, apathy, staying in bed all day, etc.
What I noticed helps is lots of rest, protein shakes and eat as much as you can. Fats, carbs, protein, everything. Fats help with hormone productions, carbs help with energy and serotonin production and protein helps build neurotransmitters.
I've found that st johns wort works somewhat, however you basically cannot eat certain proteins because it will raise your blood pressure too much. Read up on it, but be aware of potential side effects, which can be quite bad if you aren't careful.
I also noticed that OTC sleep meds (Diphenhydramine) help me to relax at night time and fall asleep better.
Avoid alcohol, because it might help you a bit, but it will make you feel much worse for next few days afterwards.
I have mixed feelings about exercise because it seems to make me happy for about 2 hours, then I get more depressed and anxious.
Overall I think the most positive effect for me is eating as much as I can, even though I'm almost never hungry lately.
Give it time and eat right, sleep good, maybe get some exercise and over a period of time it will get better. Also get multivitamin.
