Just goffing around and two names I checked on that were available became unavailable in less than two minutes!

I must be really good at naming domains or they have bots that snap up searches in hopes of selling.

bought by:

Referral URL:DomainDoornam
Name Server: NS-1.DOT5PARKING.COM

The Whois network in general is not safe.
Never check a domain. Just buy it.
Use a direct registrar (not a reseller that may delay).
Use the API if possible.
Use a prepaid option if any.

I have been using whois.sc for a while now and have never had any issues. I have heard the horror stories using other whois sites though.

Anecdotal evidence for the lose.

Do another search and see if it's registered again by the same company a couple of minutes later.

I just can't believe that someone can have domain sniping as a business model. Thousands upon thousands of domains are queried each day for availability - I just can't believe someone is out there saying "yep, just pay $6 every time someone looks anything up"...

Doesn't seem like it would be a very profitable way to earn a living.

I don't think those guys pays 6$ - they will have access to bulk pricing and leeways like canceling domain in 5 days.

There was some article about how some domain snappers use thousands of domain for 5 days and release it and this keeps going on - milking millions of $ in the process.

meanwhile I searched and bought through whois.net and they sent a a fabulous email but no confirmation!!!!!!

Here's what they sent :
