Just saw IAL on DVD, went to add to my previous comments about the book and other film versions of the story, and found that the review thread was closed. Weird.
Frank's Movie Review:
Overall, it fucking sucked.
Awesome setting.
Suprisingly good acting for Will Smith, more like his older stuff. Stupid ending completely ignoring the point of the book. In fact, most of the storyline of the book is lost.
Don't know who the design guy for the infected was, but I bet he has seen Blade II about a million times, and thinks it's the most awesome movie ever.
Am not clear at all how the Alpha can be smart and introspective enough to evince anger towards Neville, mock his mental state, set an elaborate (and ironic) trap for Neville, (apparently) show attachment/affection for his mate, yet when the chips come down can't think of anything to do but beat his head against a wall to show his superiority. I actually went back and watched most of the movie again for the specific reason that I felt like I must have missed something about that guy, or that it was more than one character I was mistaking for the same, etc.
Anyway. What a waste. All the more shame in that it seemed to have so much potential with the sets and Smith's acting being on its best behaviour.
