Wickedfire Travel Thread 2012

I've done pretty much that exact itinerary, OP. Went to 11 countries in 2 months.

It was: Amsterdam > Italy > Slovenia > Croatia > Bosnia > Hungary > Poland > Czech Republic > Finland > Estonia > Denmark

Second time it was a train through Romania from Bucharest to Belgrade and Novi Sad, Serbia.

My next destinations are Ukraine, Russia and maybe Belarus. In Russia, I plan to travel from St. Petersburg to Moscow and then visit various cities along the trans siberian. Probably will end up in Beijing... maybe visit Toyko from there. lol.

In '98 I used interail & britrail to see 21 countries in Europe, including 4 from your list... At that time it wasn't too easy to see all the stuff around Croatia though, so Prague is as far as I went in that direction before heading back west and then down to Italy and Greece.

If there was one thing in my life that changed me in a positive way, it was that trip, my first time away from north america... Of course you live in a place with many languages and cultures already, so it will likely have a lesser effect on you than mine did...

Just try to see the cultures that are the most different from your own and you'll get the most out of it.

Been tu Hungary years ago and took the train to visit several cities. One thing I would recommend but you need to keep an eye on your bag during the entire trip anyone could tell that you are. Tourrist

This summer i visited: Hungary (Budapest), Austria ( Wien, Salzburg and Innsbruck ), Germany ( Munich, Stuttgart, Rust-Europe Park), France ( Strasbourg )

Budapest it's nice, but it wasn't very impressive for me.

Wien it's very beautiful, really liked it. You should visit Schonbrunn palace and city center.

Salzburg it's very nice. Worth visiting the castle.

Innsbruck it's awesome. I liked it because of the mountains.

Munich it's a very modern city. I was surprised by the luxury cars i've seen there. Very good one to visit.

Stuttgart, only spent a few hours only, so can't say an opinion.

Rust- Europe Park - awesome, awesome, awesome. This was definitely the best decision from my trip. I stayed there for 2 days, and i loved it. The park it's really big, and one day it's not enough to see and ride everything. I was really scared on the roller coster "silver star" (search on youtube to see why).

Strasbourg is a very small city, but modern and nice. I visited at 6 PM, for a few hours only, but i was surprised that there was almost nobody on the street. Very few cars, and people on the street, i wonder what they were doing.

I liked Austria the most because of the beautiful Alps.

I plan to visit next year: France (Monaco,Paris), England(London), Spain (Barcelona).

About the countries you are interested to visit, i can tell you about Romania. The roads are terrible, the rail ways also. I would recommend you to come and visit by airplane only. If interested in Bucharest, you should visit this:

the house of the parliament

the village museum. Very interesting, you would love it. Lot of cool things to see.

I get back to USA (from England) in a few days and then, in a month or so, am leaving for SEAsia. Mostly Thailand.

Not backpacking. Not paying for sex. AMA

Of all the places you mentioned, I am fondest of Prague.

Nice list. If you find yourself in Krakow, make sure to check out Auschwitz. Definitely worth a day of your time. Live in Eastern Europe for a while back in my younger days, and can't say I'd be too excited to go back. Great if you're just a tourist though, but different if you live there. Prague kicks ass though.

No traveling plans for me, except a month in Canada to visit the family. Probably some small trips here and there, but nothing exciting. Maybe South Vietnam, as it's one of the few places in SE Asia I have yet to check out. Then hopefully in a year or two I'll do a few years in S America, and after that, I'll be content with my traveling, and have seen everything I want to.

2012 I'll be spending most of my time in Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh City.

Summer I'll be hitting up Europe. Haven't quite planned which countries because I'll be going with friends.

If anyone's coming through Bangkok hit me up if you wanna grab a beer or wanna see the clubbing scene.

^^ Im digging a hole in my backyard and hope to end up in Ho Chi Minh City to connect up with Charles.

We be clubin' in a few months, be ready.

Northern Europe from France to Denmark (skipped Poland), Latvia then Sweden, Finland and Norway. All in train and bus.
Wonderful experience, never stay more than a week in the same place.

Moving to japan around Jan/Feb, still sorting out the details atm.

I did the eurorail pass thing 2 years ago, it's great! I would love to go back to Budapest at some point next summer.

I just moved to Buenos Aires for the next several months. Probably do a trip to Columbia and Chile in 2012 and then spend some time in Europe towards the end of 2012.

So far only 2 short trips planned - Bahamas & Jamaica. Will probably hit up Cabo and Seattle along with all of the usual trade show spots as well. I <3 kicking off the year in Vegas for ASW.

This year:
New Zealand - Australia - New Zealand - Australia - Bali - Australia

Next year:
New Zealand - Thailand (4 months) - Home (Switzerland)

Then a short trip to Belgium (tomorrowland) and then not sure yet. Maybe stay at home for a while, Eurotrip, Vegas + South America with a buddy or SEA. Don't know yet.
