Ok, so Google is doing it in the bay area .. NetZero tried it (or similar) in the early dot com days... now I wonder what would it take to actually offer free wifi in other cities, MORE importantly neighborhoods.. I mean lets assume that you could get host locations to plug in equipment in exchange for sponsorship. Does anyone know of a repeater powerful and cost efficient enough to offer wide coverage?

thinking about it like this, you have ads served at the most targeted levels. Pitching advertisers would be easy, like radio ad sales..
