I've got an area designated to have a "featured articles" type area at the top of my wordpress site, but I want it to include tabbed ajax navigation to consolidate space and offer more to the user:

The catch? I don't want to buy a premium theme I just want to use this enhanced feature on my existing site.
Any solutions? Worse case scenario I'll have to buy it and reverse engineer it but I thought I'd ask you folks first...
