Hello boys and girls,
I recently had my examinations for my masters and realized that I got a lot less marks than I though I would. One of the main reasons for this was my handwriting, but apart from that while I wrote 4 sides for an answer correctly, another girl wrote just 2.5 sides of the answer booklet for the same answer, yet she gets around 1-2 mks more than me. Now both of us wrote the answer correctly, and I doubt it is only because of her neat handwriting that she gets more than me. 2 marks per answer easily translates into 10-12 marks more than me per paper. The same thing happened for my case study. I lost around 6 marks compared to her, even when I had some really good points that she never wrote.

So I want to know, seriously, are there some tactics for getting more marks? I seriously doubt that professors read each answer of every paper they receive to correct, so is it like first impressions are the best? Should I draw huuuuuggeee diagrams, just to make them appear neater? Will leaving many blank lines in-between sub-points of my answers help make it look neat?

Maybe if you can answer a question well in two and a half pages it is better than answering it in 4 pages?

Maybe you got bad grades because you're not smart enough to figure out that this is a forum filled with people who laugh at degrees because teh googles hires us all and doesn't give a shit what our grades were?

I grade undergraduate lab papers and I always try to give less marks for the papers with shitty hand writing. They hurt my eyes and eat my time.

Maybe its because your writing style sucks. You've got balls if you're getting people to pay premium prices for the likes of what you've written here.

Jesus, your website is a train wreck too. You've got filler text and dead links, the only thing that seems to be done is the testimonials about how awesome your services are.

I had a teacher give me -75 on one exam because I wrote so small she couldn't read it. Also had five or six high school teachers literally use magnifying glasses to read my writing.

You're a paid content writer? I sincerely hope you were high or drunk when you wrote these two paragraphs.

If what you wrote on your exams is anything like the crap you produced above, you probably deserve the grade you received.

It's 14th of October all over again. I gave dat bish four pages of dense LSI content and yet, she panda-slapped my paper so hard, that i lost all my markings.

Well, it seems that the onpaper optimization of the chick was just better. Thou art irate?

Ok, I believe I can speak with some authority here, seeing as I'm married to someone who regularly has to mark postgrad papers.

Here's the thing: college professors fucking hate marking. It's by far the shittiest part of the job, when there are a lot of other demands on their time. They DO read all of the papers, but they read them very, very quickly.

The key to getting a good mark (apart from having a good answer) is to structure your information so that it's quick and easy to understand. Otherwise known as LEARNING HOW TO COMMUNICATE WELL.

You're not going to like this, but just from looking at your two paragraph post, I can tell that you have poor communication skills.

Why?

Because you ramble. Your sentences have too many clauses and your paragraphs are too long. It reads like you don't plan out what you're going to say properly before you say it. I can imagine that reading 4 sides of your writing would be tortuous.

Don't take this personally. Most student these days have the same problem. The majority of the stuff my wife has to mark could only be described as "long-winded drivel", and she lectures at a top-tier university. When a student like the girl you mentioned comes along, the lecturer breathes a sign of relief at not having to wade through all this prose, and marks her up.

How can you achieve the same marks?

Simple: Learn how to communicate. Study it. Practice it. Get other people to read your writing and give you ruthless feedback. Don't look for tricks or shortcuts, because they won't help. Like all worthwhile skills, it takes time and sweat to master.

I know that sounds like a lot of effort for a better exam mark, but I'll let you into a secret. Effective, concise communication is possibly the most valuable thing you can take away from a university education. There is no field of endeavour that I can think of where it won't help you to become more successful.

when I was in high school one of my teachers made me redo a test because she couldn't read my hand writing.

Your problem may be that you are the wrong gender.
