How observant are you?

Derren brown is awesome.

Everyone should watch his vids.

They can be useful for psychological manipulation in advertising ;)

O man when I saw the asian chick swap I lost it :D I don't think I've ever let so loud laughter out

Crazy shit, just how stupid are we, eh?

I'm sure in some cases it comes down to observation but nothing really stupid about them; some of the switches were extremely similar (white male to white male with very similar clothes and hair) and you get to see a complete stranger for a couple of seconds (the whole experiment directs your attention to the map and destination). But I think in the majority of cases they either don't want to make the situation awkward, or simply don't care. I've had my share of absurd situations and I generally just go with the flow. The Chinese chick is pretty ridiculous though. lol

Wth, not available in my country due to copyright grounds - it's channel 4, which is a UK company... WTH?

Haha! Thing is though, with £5 notes, £50 notes, it's still the same. I could put up an image of Sir John Houblon, but no one would recognize him :p plus the £50 note is faked so much it's lost a lot of respect. Not to mention that American 100 dollar bills are prettier, green instead of pink :D

Good point. It also depends on the setting--ie., very crowded, bustling/fast moving location versus relatively sedate location.

Let me guess, your ISP is Virgin Media? For some reason, which escapes me currently, the vast majority of virgin Media IPs are blocked by C4.

Eh... How many random people do you come into contact with each day... and can you remember their face/voice at the end of the day? Probably not.

Nobody really *cares* about the stranger asking them for directions. I think this experiment just proves most people are caught up in their own lives to the extent that they don't really pay attention to the people around them.

And who can blame them?

I think there's a huge difference between remembering someone at the end of the day, and not being able to tell the difference between a british man's and an asian woman's voice over the course of 5 seconds. I know what you're saying and I agree that people are pretty oblivious and tunnel visioned most of the time, but this is just another level.

Maybe it's not that they couldn't tell the difference but that they thought they were together. Even at the end when the white guy traded out with the black guy, maybe she thought they were all giant picture carriers and needed directions. Like the person above said it may not be that you don't notice it it may be that you just can't explain it so you just go with the flow until your brain can work it out. We are the ultimate adapters.

edit: it would have really helped if they had done a survey afterward. :-/
