So the main mover and shaker in my own PR update was, in fact, my blog (sig). It jumped to PR4 and while reading some other webmaster blogs I found people who SHOULD, for all intents and purposes, have a much higher PR than me. Take for example JohnChow.com which is showing me a PR2.

Perhaps this is just another sign that PR is useless. Or maybe there is some cinematic foreshadowing and google can predict my future (fingers crossed). Or maybe it's because my site isn't monetized in any way. I don't know?

Oh well, I'll take it. Just thought this was interesting.

did you check both [www].johnchow.com and johnchow.com? plus, isn't it still updating?

Thanks for shattering my dreams... jk

I figured as much, I just thought this illustrated the point pretty well!

Sorry man!
There is even a script out there (see one of aojon.com's early posts) where you can manipulate your PR by increasing it...

John Chow's blog only started getting popular fairly recently, late November I believe, due to a string of almost daily front-page diggs. Give it a couple more months and it will probably have a much higher PR.

Meh forget about PR and think about money. His blog is making $2k/month whilst yours is making nothing. What do you value more? PR or cash? I know which one I would go for

Good point. The update will probably take about a week before everything settles down. As for all the comments re PR--I tend to agree. PR has some value when doing link exchanges, selling text links, or selling sites....but ultimately, the proper metrics should focus on how much qualified/performing traffic does a site get.

that's funny because now it's pr4 here for me too. oh, trust me, i'd rather have the traffic than the pr too. i was merely saying how i'm a newb and john chow makes mad loot yet our sites have the same pr. and thus, wow, pr really does mean absolutely nothing. thats my point.

and about "how much is his blog making", i'm not trying to monetize my blog. if i did try i wouldn't make too much right now. when we deal with it all day, i feel it's a breath of fresh air to read someones ideas without having to think about "work".. which all "monetization" makes us thing about. maybe down the road if there is so much traffic i would be stupid not to monetize. but, for now, i just do it as a recreational sport.
