Luck & Timing. Hard work of course the saying 99% hard work 1% luck. OK I will go with that.

But for every 1 success there is probably 100 if not 1000 that did the same thing that never (or not yet) made it. Not saying they will never make it - just that the road is not going to be as easy.

So many things can happen in life that you can never guarantee anything.

One thing is for certain - those that give up never make it.

Just a thought for many on this board that are older and keep hitting walls - if you give up then you seal your fate.

What if the lawn mower kid hit a rock and killed someone - would he have given up?
What if the web site kid was being harassed by a hacker - would he have given up?
What if the yearbook girl actually faced more challenges than someone telling her she would not get enough users...
What if what if what if.

Luck has a lot to do with when you have success - perseverance and tenacity have a lot to do if you will ever be a success.

Adam Horwitz -> Mobile Monopoly guy? 1.5 mil in 3 days? Wut?

Def believable, the CB gravity on that thing was insane for a few days. I think it was around 1600. It may be a flaky metric but relative to the gravity of other products on there, 1600 is pulling some numbers for sure.

My father used to doubt me, telling me I'd never get a government job, and that I would go to hell for working on my internet business instead of praying 5 times a day.

He just now asked me to lend him a grand, and I gave it to him.

No hard feelings pop. You didn't know better.

but seriously, when he was being a bitch, I completely ignored him, stopped talking to him and even tried to get my mom to leave him.

Negative family members is the worst!

moved 1,500 miles to get away from negative family bullshit. Best thing I've ever done.

My mother: "You can't just sit on the internet all day. That's no life. No one will respect you. Legitimize yourself and get a real job."

FUCK YOU MOM.

My father, on the other hand, appreciates the value of self-employment. He knows all money is green, no matter where it comes from.

My parents were always telling me to stop wasting my time on the internet.

The asshole that my mom married even started taking the keyboard to work with him at one point so I couldn't use the computer during my summer break from school.

He later disconnected the internet service to keep me off, so I signed up for my own account to use. When he found out about that, he cut the phone line inside the wall near the computer in an attempt to stop me. I then bought a 100 foot phone cord from radio shack and ran it up the stairs from the computer in the basement to the working phone jack in the kitchen when nobody else was home.

Hello friends,

I think one thing all rich and successful have common is take action to be rich.

Lot people dream be rich but no do anything to try become rich so stay poor.

Successful people try start business and work hard. May not always be success but if fail still learn lessons important and do better next time. No give up because one time fail.

Good luck bros

Good point . Adding to this, there are two types of people in life: One that likes to follow, another that likes to lead. If you're not getting anywhere leading, then follow... vice versa. Lead if you suck at following. If you suck at both, learn to be a better listener / observer.

Jesus man, what a bunch of stupid bullshit to have to put up with. Good for you though!

Interested to know how long ago this was and what they think about what you're doing now?

My mom doesn't support at all what I do and says I'm living in a dreamland. My dad doesn't support either but "he respects my decision"

It's sad to say... but they'll understand when you start acquiring and showing up with expensive gear that's been paid for in cash and still doesn't dent your net worth too much.

Sorry about that situation though. My parents are both supportive, especially my mom. My dad didn't understand what I was doing when I quit, but he's coming around. Lifetime corporate kind of guy. They just never realized I could move so much product on the net.

Loving this thread. My family was always supportive, but friends were not. Since i was black growing up in a predominately white area, of course people told me I wasn't going to amount to shit. That drove me to learn more and not to worry about what they say.

So I...

Started designing websites when I was 10. Would spend my time reading tutorials, watching videos online about web design, etc.

Started my own business at 18 doing web design. Failed horribly at pricing, meeting with clients, etc. Went through a period of 2 years doing some, *cough* selling of substances, which really turned me into a true entrepreneur. I learned everything I know, especially dealing with different types of people, how to make a sale, etc. You know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, then I landed a job as a computer technician. The company got mad at me when they saw I was in the paper promoting my "newly established" web design business (I was the cover story!) So, they threatened to fire me. 2 days later, they moved me into a new position as internet marketer.

Learned so much as an internet marketer, that I broke away from the company and started my own thing. Ever since then, I've been doing my own thing, making monies online.

The point of this post? All the haters from the area I was at, are going to be TRULY hating when I roll up in this at the end of December:

I'll be sure to honk the horn at everybody I know.

That must be because you are in VA. In California you would be called lucky being the black kid in a predominately white area and helped more than you can imagine.

I grew up the reverse - the white kid in the black neighborhood in California. Crazy how different parts of the country can give you a totally different experience from the same circumstance.
