ASW - Was it worth it?

So what value in terms of improving your businesses did people get out of it? Getting drunk and all that is fun, but you can do that in Vegas 365 days a year, so that is not really a good justification for the value of the show.

So did you get anything from it that is going to make you money going forward?

LOL! Yeah, it does sound like just one big drunk fest. Speaking for myself, I got a lot of networking done, met some great people, and learned a lot. I'm not a drinker, so I managed to retain most of what I learned. Now it's just a matter of applying it.

So, I believe that what I gained from ASW will make me a lot more money, and it was well worth the time spent.

Well after reading this and seeing the pics I'm sorry I didn't go. Im going to make the next one for sure.

You cant get drunk with a bunch of other affiliates and networks 365 days a year in Vegas which is why it was worth it. As for the sessions they were completely worseless.

For the record the sessions really were dissapointing. You had the choice of like 4 different classes to attend:
1 merchant track
1 affiliate track
2 general classes

I attended mostly the affiliate track sessions, and almost everyone talked about merchant shit that did not pertain to affiliates. I went to one that was marketting your affiliate site outside of the box, and it was all about doing stickers and t-shirts and shit. At the end someone asked the speaker how much traffic he is getting from this and he said 200 uniques.

The one put on my chris jones from pepperjam was good. Andrew, shoe and jon's would have been good, but they got hosed with the format and stupid ass questions.

yeah serisouly,i went to almost all the ones jdog did and man... fuck the classes, the one that really got me madwas "bloggers, the new super affiliates" it was on the aff track but all they fuckin talked about was how many people blog, how they dont like ads, and to be creative. WTF!!! and the landing page class too. Everything they talk about is nothing that me as an affiliate can do except for use (-red) when promoting a shoe site with no red shoes! I missed the chris jones one, wahwah but over all just like everyone was saying the networking was amazing, meeting all the people from WF made it worth it. Although i was comped , if i had to pay the most i would get is an exibit hall pass. Good times though, good times

Sorry that is not a terribly good answer.

What did you get out of doing it? I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade, sounds like a great time.

I personally would never justify the expense of something like that based solely on being able to get drunk with a bunch of other affiliates and networks. If I am going on vacation I am going on vacation, if I am going on a business trip I expect to conduct some business and get some benefits.

I understand the importance of networking and all of that, I am just wondering if anyone got anything out of it to support it as an actual business expense besides getting kicked out of bars and hugging toilets. Don't get me wrong, sounds like a fine time... I was just looking to see if there was any value beyond that. You don't need an actual affiliate show that costs money to facilitate that. Everyone could just say lets go to Vegas and get drunk.

I think the networking was 95% of the value of affiliate summit. I only went to 2 sessions and they were definately not at the level pubcon or ses is. I walked into one and I heard the word quality content 8 times before I left 4minutes later and the other was jon / shoe / andrew which needed a moderator and someone to keep fucktarded questions from being asked.

well i'll be in vegas the end of march for a bachelor party - staying at the MGM - anyone be around?

hope to make enough money one of these days to be able to just say fuck it - and head down to one of these things..

Man... do I wish I could have been there. But here I am up in cold northern Europe lightyears away from sunny Vegas and mingling and lingling ;) WF members.

We need an AS here in Europe as well but I've said that before :) Well, at least my wife is from the U.S. so maybe we will time our next visit over there with the next ASW or ASE.

Anyway - great to hear an update from all of you who went. The pics were neat too, thanks SEO_Mike and DruSam. :)

Ok well then here is the real answer...you get out of it what ever you want to get out of it...you could ask 10 different people if it was worth it and they are gonna give you ten different answers because they went for 10 different reasons...I personally went there to have a good time and meet a few people thats it...I went to the sessions with the expectation they were gonna be shitty and guess what...they were but I did pick up a few good answers to questions I had by just talking to some random people so IMO it was worth it...will I buy a full pass next time I go...HELL NO...but I will go again for sure because I did get a few questions I had answered and I met some cool people.

sounds like affiliate summet needs competition to maybe not have such shitty classes. but who's gonna wanna teach exactly what is making them mad cash?
