So I'm about to invest in a new project and I already bought the exact keyword for the niche I'm entering in the .sc extension. Problem is... when is the last time you saw a .sc at the top of the search engines?

Seeing as how I'm investing a tidy little sum into this project, I want to pick a great name to start with so I don't regret my decision. Would you recommend going with a shittier dot com, the .sc extension or trying to buy a domain from someone else (can't afford any of the really good ones anyways though)?

I never saw .sc anywhere, but you might be ok with .net.

If you are looking for return visitors who will typin the domain, go for the one that makes the most sense. Always a .com even if it is a bit long.

If you don't care about the domain and it is mostly for keywords... well just get a .net or org

Any .com is better than an oddball TLD. Most users will only remember you're domain name, and not the extension. If they remember "trigatch" but not the .sc, then whomever has trigatch.com gets your surfer. Or worse, the surfer gets a page not found error or a parked page. They'll think that your site went down, and likely won't try again.

Go with the com - after some decent brainstorming, you'll probably find an available domain that suits you just right.

Agreed. Since you're starting out fresh. This might be a good time to get a made up domain name and brand the hell out of it. Plus it would be a strong trademark since it's a made up word.

so if you're selling asshats ... you could have asshatrix.com (I know bad example, but I wanted to see if I could use asshat in this example:D)

Kind of what jon did with wickedfire. what does phrase "wickedfire" have to do with this forum. Absolutely nothing. Its just a cool name, but jon branded it in this way. So we all know when someone says I posted on wickedfire.com. We know exactly what they are talking about.

And for those that don't know, then you need to educate them. Just like all of us before visiting or joining wickedfire.

.sc is useless. .com is king. And a strong trademarked .com is even better.

.com all the way. you wont be able to find keyword.com in most cases, but a good variation, or even a made up word like toxik.com or zeenik.com or something similar might work well in branding, depending on the niche. (btw, those two are taken. PM me if you want to buy. lol).
