dchuk ... i agree with you man. TBH I think we are in a tech bubble. every single bullshit startup is raising money. I think the VC's want the success as much as the start ups, that is why all of this over evaluation is happening. Same thing with Groupon for 6 Bill, thats rediculous.

VC's care about growth 1st, and revenue 2nd, twitter is still growing, so thats probably the appeal. Oh, and no one wants to miss out on the "next big thing"

I agree though its all bullshit

first of all, lulz at tags and most likely umadbro.bmp coming soon...

second, the part I can't figure out is the idea of growth first, revenue 2nd is fine and dandy, but they've been going for 5+ years now, and are probably nowhere near anything close to profitable. Facebook is raising money, but they're also running an ad network that makes somewhat significant revenue for them.

I cant understand why they need 300 staff to run the company, does Facebook have 300 staff to run the status update wall?

I saw a start-up the other day, it was very tech heavy, it has 20 employees of which only 3 are engineers.

my take on the growth thing is that VC's are putting off the monetization to the side. I feel like they want to make sure Twitter is the #1 authority site of its kinds, so that almost everyone in the world has one. Kind of like how everyone and their mother used google until bing launched their new ad campaigns and merged with yahoo.

the thought i would think is get everyone signed up, make sure it is the leader by far in the industry, then introduce brand new monetization strategies.

one thing i really cannot figure out for the life of me though is this ...

why the FUCK, hasn't twitter implemented a selve serving ad platform similar to POF/Facebook/LinkeIn? Sure the targeting may not be as good, but seriously ... why not do it?

First of all, we're not in a bubble. The thing to keep in mind here is that these are private individuals and groups making these investments, a small fraction of their wealth. There is no bubble to burst, if it busts a small handful of wealthy people lose a small amount of their wealth. No mom and pop shops are effected, no working class investors lose their life savings.

And you don't need to make money to have value, twitter has eyeballs, it's as simple as that. That investment is the equivalent of $2 for every user twitter added in the last 12 months. Peanuts, really.

Y U MAD THO?

i think twitter will die like myspace before it actually starts generating revenue.

anyone else notice that myspace is down to #53 on alexa? Talk about a massive bailing happening there.

Shitty leadership will drive any company into the ground.

When it comes to leadership, Twitter is in much better hands.
