I briefly had an amazon kindle but the dog ate it before I really started using it :)

Anyway, going to pick another one up and I'm wondering if I should pick up the kindle, nook, or one of the others?

(I like the kindles bigger size so that's a plus)

I just got a Nook color and rooted it with the hack on xda developers - pretty good so far, I use it for reading pdfs mainly. Screen is good quality, and its now running android marketplace/youtube/angry birds/etc.

Also runs the Kindle app which is useful for me, since I'm not in the US (so I can't buy much from B&N). Great value for $249. Kindle will be better in daylight/sunshine though thanks to e-ink, and way better battery life. Nook color gets about 10 hours for me.

Got an iPad with iBooks, I love it. Syncs bookmarks between my iPhone/iPad so I can read when I'm in waiting room or some other place where I'm passing time. Then at night I pick up my iPad to read some more and all my shit stays synced, it's great.

iPad nigga.

I'm no Apple fanboi, but I'm an avid reader. Being able to switch between Nook, Kindle, iBooks, etc. is pretty great.

When people give you Barnes and Noble gift cards you don't have to let them go to waste on paper books, you can get eBooks on Nook. Same with Amazon, and Apple gift certs.

I'd go with the Kindle, I'd think getting distracted would too easy on some of the devices that don't serve the sole purpose of reading/downloading books. Been thinking of getting one since the first generation was released, but having a full physical library appeals to me more than having hundreds of intangible books in my hand. If each purchase of a physical book came with the Kindle version for free I'd buy one.

I thought about the ipad, but I'm concerned about the glare. What I liked about the kindle was that ink and paper look.

Available books seems to be the kindle winning, plus the ink/paper look, plus the size and that's where I'm really leaning.

That's one of the things I love about it. The disadvantage is there is no backlight, so if you want to read in low light you need a reading light or something. The flip side is, it's great in well let conditions. Really easy on the eyes and the text is super crisp. Hell, I've taken mine to the beach in full sunlight on multiple occasions and it was great.

Yeah forget about an overpriced tablet / ipad if you want an e-reader. Just go with Kindle, and get one of those attachable lights for night time. Anything backlit just kills your eyes after awhile, but that eink screen is pretty awesome. Also you can convert any other e-book to the kindle format too, so it doesn't really matter where you get the e-books from, as long as you can download it.

Look, an iPad is not an alternative to the Kindle. The Kindle is a whole different kettle of fish. An iPad or an iPhone or some other electronic device with Kindle software does not compare. Only one is like reading paper and the other is like looking at a computer screen - because it is.

I recommend the Kindle, but haven't tried the other e-readers, which don't include iPads, phone, tablets and netbooks girls ;) . I've had one for quite a while and it makes reading more pleasurable. I read even more now such is my love for it.

I have a pretty old Cybook Gen 3. Its great because you dont have to bother with DRM crap like with the Kindle (someone correct me if I am wrong here) but can just go and find any book torrents you want. So far pretty much any book I have wanted to read have been available out there.

Where do you download them from? You don't have to worry about DRM on Kindles fwiw, so I would like some book sources please! :)

Kindle if you're reading properly formated eBooks, if you're going to be reading PDFs iPad 100%...I cannot stand reading pdfs on my kindle, but the books that are formated with it I love. I also wish that with the purchase of the physical book you could get a kindle copy too. I love real books but the convenience of the kindle is why I have one and use it. It's a lot lighter than most books, plus you can have a thousand books with you all the time (not sure why you'd need that though)...

Guess I'm finished being sold. Was just afraid I was missing something with all the new ones out.

Thank you all - I figured I read a book a day now, this should be an interesting experiment on going bankrupt buying books :)

Hmm most decent trackers have an ebook section. For fiction or popular non fiction I find almost everything I want on demonoid.me and the rest on public trackers. If you want nonfiction in smaller niches you will have to find niche trackers.
