looks like there was just a problem connecting to DB and result no object or array was able to be created, thus creating the error. no actual development.

I've seen this error happen in the past and Jon admitted that he was messing with the Forum code (A long time ago) so yeah it can pop up when there is actual development (Another hint are the PHP warnings, they don't usually randomly pop up if someone has not tried to change something).
However if it was just a simple database error then yes I'd say that you are correct in your assessment.
Which is why I was just being a bit humorous by referring to Jon in this thread.
It has been awhile since I last talked to you. It's going pretty good starting fresh for the new year, still plugging away. How's your work coming along?
