Anyhow, I'm maintaining a positive attitude. As the day progressed and the IM's and PM's poured in, I realized that this was for the best. With my paycheck tomorrow, the severence pay, our tax refund, and my affiliate stuff, I could actually sit on my ass for a month and not do anything, but I'm not going to.

Talking to Kyle via IM and he put it into perspective, I made $35000 per year (remember I live in OMAHA) so that's about $95 per day. I can do that easy. So, at this point, I'm actually in a good mood about getting fired. It happened for a reason, and I'm going to make the best of it.

Thanks again everyone!!

Thats the spirit soldier! Use it as a motivator!

What could be a better motivator?

now you're making me worry when i come here and this is the first post i read. i've been home sick today with the flu, trying to login this afternoon stating the same thing you're posting about. thankfully i'm in a union and already have a list of things i wanted to talk to them about.

last time i was laid off was on july 4 - Independence day, I tried to take that as a sign then but ended up taking a full-time position from contract for the "job security" of working a union. now i hate that i need to drag my sick ass into work in hopes that someone disabled my account by mistake

Hey Mike,

I'm not worried for you. With all the messages and leads you're getting of WF already and your work ethic I think you'll blow away your previous job income in no time.

I don't mean to be an asshole but who cares?

I got fired from every single job I've ever had. So what?

True, I might not be rich and all that YET, but this lack of security is keeping me propelled to learn how to work on my own at an astronomical rate.

The creditors are on my back and I'm feeling the heat. So what do I do? Work harder!

A 9-5 joe will never be motivated to move out of the comfort zone, because he's too scared to lose the security the job. However, he will still be a sissy boss's boy at 50.

At 50 I plan to have my own version of playboy mansion with all perks that come with it. And I like feeling the heat, because he who is defined by false sense of security is controlled by it.

I agree with everything except the first line. Apparently a lot of people care. And I appreciate that. My day started out kind of shitty, I came here, made a post to get it off my chest and people that give a shit came out of the woodwork.

So, yeah, it motivates the hell out of me. Sure, I'm going to work even harder than before (although that'll be tough since I was working a regular job, plus this and only sleeping an average of 4 hours per night).

Anyhow, good points Josh. Thanks.

That's not what I meant

I mean "who cares" in a great scheme of things... as in you dropped one penny... who cares? In other words you loosing your job is purely positive thing in a grand scheme of things... at least to a person who will seize the opportunity with ferocious resolve. Good luck.

I can definately see why you would care, being that your last avatar was of your new baby. But you can definately make much more doing affiliate marketing. It just might take a little time. PM me if you want to exchange info on what offers are working.

Same thing happened to me a few years back. I got to work in the morning to find my computer gone altogether -- just a network cable left sitting there. I'm like, "hmm am I getting a new computer?" Ha ha. No I was not.

No matter how ya slice it - it doesn't feel good to get let go. Hope it works out for ya.

Also remember guys - this is USA. You can raise yourself from rags to riches in a very short period of time... if you really want it.

I love USA.

Ah! Okay, then I guess I agreed with your post 100%. Fuck 'em. Like everyone here has said, there is more money in AF than that the jail cell called a cubicle. I'm going to go get some!

Charge!!!!! :2gunsfiring_v1:

That's flippin terrible. Are you looking for another job, or will you try and live off of your current $

Anywho, I'll shoot you a PM soon inquiring about some SEO work :)

Fuck work!

So, I get up this morning, take a shower, shave, etc. and head off to my 9 - 5 job. I get there at around 8:30am CST, grabbed some coffee and a Dr.Pepper from the vending machine and head to my desk. I sit down, put my glasses on and fire up the computer, punch in my password and...fuck it says my account's been disabled. WTF!

Turns out I got the workplace equivalent of the ban hammer. Their phrase for it is "Re org".

I'm trying to remain positive about the situation, but it really just sucks. Anyhow, I could go on, but I'm trying not to bitch too much about it. I like to think that this is God's way of saying: "Fuck work, you can do it on your own". Okay, so God probably doesn't swear, but I like to think that's what He's saying to me.

Enough religion, back to work for me.

If anyone is in need of some SEO work, hit me up. I need some freelance stuff to squeek by until my affiliate stuff can take over full time.

Thanks!

Hello SEO_Mike I am truly sorry you lost your job but what happened to you this morning had a profound effect on me.

Obviously this is my first post, I have been a lurker on this forum since November when I found it by accident. This is the only forum I visit daily because it is literally the best forum out here, most members tell it exactly like it is -NO BULLSHIT!-

I too went to work this morning and as usual fired up the PC to get my wickedfire fix when I read what happened to you. It was like a switch turned on for me. I only discovered internet marketing 8 or 9 months ago and I have not been able to do much because I work about 60 hours a week and I have many personal obligations but I know this is what I should be doing.

I have been with this company for about 5 years but there is nothing to stop them from doing to me what they did to you and I felt like I was wasting time at work when I should be making money so after reading your post I QUIT! I have been thinking about it since I found this place.

After my taxes and cashing out my 401K plan I should have enough money to live on for six months with some left over to start working with. I don't have a plan yet on how to best start but between November and now I have learnt a lot and everybody started from somewhere even JON.

It was your post that sent me over the edge, gave me the kick in the ass I needed. I know you have a family to take care so them firing you is fucked up in the worst way and it is scary walking away from a steady paycheck (believe me I understand) but I am looking forward to the future and you should to.

So Mike FUCK WORK! and thanks......

way to go IM-MAN. at times i've convinced that desperation of having to rely on this for income would actually be more beneficial than being in an okay position already.

WOW!

Wow! I read your post, and reread it, and reread it, then I had my wife read it. I'm glad that my experience could help you to make a life changing decision.

I am convinced at this point, in no small part due to the overwhelming response of this community, that this situation really is a blessing in disguise.

I'm a little overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and I can't express how much it means to me. I only hope that when the day comes, I can return the favor for you (the collective you).

Thank you from myself, and my family. WickedFire rules!!

Sorry to hear the terrible news but I tihnk it's a blessing in disguise. Get on unemployment and with a little spamginuity we can get you to 100$ a day in a heart beat, keeping your costs at 0$. Hit me up on IM, same nick on yahoo. I'll give you a couple of ideas to make you some coin in a hurry with limited work, all legal and legit. Think about this, that's:

3 mortgage leads a day
10 ringtone leads
100 zip submits
...

Doesn't seem all that hard in those terms does it? Hit me up and I'll help yah out.

I read through this post a couple of times, and still can't figure it out.
Is it supposed to be motivational?

It sounds like you are pretty screwed and there's some type of disconnect with owning the playboy mansion at 50.

Maybe it's time to take the blue pill and crawl out of the rabbit hole.

I don't mean to be an asshole but who cares?

There is a right way and a wrong way of going about this. I recommend you immediatly devote all your effort to getting a sustainable 9-5 job and put affiliate marketing asside until you have that job. While you can make a lot of moeny with internet marketing the learning curve is VERY steep and paying the bills is a #1 priority. You can't do that if your pissing away time and money on Adwords.

Hey SEO Mike,
I was gonna say what Copeac Mike mentioned.

In addition if you trawl around the net, there're SEO's charging $400/page for "SEO Optimization". Apart from the H1s, H2s and meta tags and content tweaking, I'm not sure that they're doing a heck of a lot more. It could be good for generating some cashflow.

It's also worth looking at your next steps going forward.
I'd usually focus on what type of results I want to achieve, develop a plan of action, implement it and so far it's worked out pretty well for me.

Here're some ideas:

During ASW, I was talking to some merchants who were pretty clueless about affiliate marketing. I gave them some basic info about the dynamics of affiliate marketing, the range of AM networks out there, the pros and cons of each, gave them some suggestions to evalute each network. If I'd wanted to, they've had been primed for a consultation in the mid $x,xxx to lower $xx,xxx range.

If that's something you might be interested in, you could easily pull some IDC/Gartner data, figure out some USPs, do up an info pack or PDF report and shoot it off to some largish merchants who don't have affiliate progs yet.

Especially if they see a risk-reward benefit, you'd be able to close it.
You might even be able to work with one of the aff networks on this

---

second, judging by the number of newbie posts on this board and others, there's a big gap in AM knowledge for newbies.

You've been doing well with your SEO posts, maybe you can work out an angle to recruit sub-affiliates more aggressively.

Doing up a 10-20page PDF giving an intro to AM, or even going down the ebook scum route to sell something, embedded with your AM network recruitment links can yield some results.

Failing which you can easily use camtasia, or do up some podcasts/teleseminars to provide AM training.

---
Whatever you do going forward, I guess the most important thing is to focus on one or a maximum of two things.

obviously if you take on big SEO work, it's going to detract from building your own AM empire, and unless there's profit share/equity in your SEO projects, it's just another form of a job.

I'd say get your AM stuff campaigns generating about $2-3k each and you'd have time to figure out what you want to do next.

Mike $95 a day should be easy to profit. Let me know what i can help out with. I am sure anyone else on this board will help as well. If you want to sell your SEO services try signing up to places like guru.com (I think thats the site) we had an asshat working for us who thought buying SEO services was smart and he pointed that site out to me, so maybe you will find other asshats who are willing to drop money on SEO. You should be able to charge 2-3K per month for the work. But honestly if i was you i would devote the time to my own SEO for my affiliate stuff in addition to the other methods you can use in AM.

Fuck your former employer they only held you back, in a few months you'll be thankful that they set you free.

My second cousin used to work for my grandfather, my grandfather fired him because he sucked. Well he ended up marrying the daughter of the man who owns Phillips 66 Petroleum. Needless to say the guy is filthy rich and wouldn't be so if he didn't get fired. I hope the same happens to you :)

Wow, I just read this after we got done talking on AIM! Sorry man that sucks but I think its a blessing in disguise like everyone else. I stuck with my 9-5 job for like 2 years while I could have easily lived off my 'webmaster' income. I was just scared to take the leap. I finally quit a year ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I know your being kind of thrown into it but I have faith that youll make 10000000000000000x times more in AM that at your job :)
