Would it be possible (or worth it) to build a large network of interlinked
sites to "grow" a pagerank farm that could be used to propell almost any
new site to the dizzy heights of PR6+ in a very short time?

I'd guess the farm would have to be spread around several IPs and most
likely various geo locations too.. but it might be interesting to try.
 


Kinda relates to how Directory websites work. Essentially you buy links on high page ranking Directories to get your website in the PR express lane.

I also remember a Black Hat Seo post about getting a page rank up by 301 redirecting to a high PR website..
 
I'd say yes, definitely, but you need to pay attention to things like relevancy of the sites in the network, and not interlinking them all together. Oh yes, don't forget certain engines can see behind the domain registrations as well - so you may want to spread them about as well. Spice it up with a bit of parasitic linking and you're away... :D
 
I've basically created something like that with MLB News Blog (might be down...all matters when you look at this).

I've gotten backlink after backlink to all the different blogs in the network and then I can easily add a link to the sidebar of each blog through one file. While doing that I generate over 4,000 backlinks to that one site within a couple weeks. With a few more links outside of MLB News Blog, I can take any site to PR4-PR6 very quickly.

What I am trying to say is...yes...I think it's well worth it :)
 
it can always be repeated for a new (general) niche too :) just stay on topic and it will be worth it

That's probably not a bad idea :p. The site was actually down for about a month because I needed to upgrade my server and unfortunatly the process went really shitty.

I'll probably do another test to see if I can't get some backlinks to another site and build up the PR and then possibly selling some text links :)
