If you think spam and spyware sucks now it is only going to get worse because people are installing too much anti spam filters and anti spyware programs.

But the spammers need to make money and they will only step up thier attacks. Instead of getting annoying viagra ads or some popups your entire computer may crash as your harddrive is etched with microsopic holes caused by spyware and visuses. In addition your password info may be stolen..all from one visit. Whats worse...a few ads or system failure and data loss?

It used to be spammers made perhaps a few cents per thousand popups and emails but since that route isnt as viable due to the spam filters they now have to maximise the damage inflicted through any traffic they can get past the filters.

People need to start openeing and reading email spam and stop blocking popups because if they dont the degree of spyware attacks will only get worse. The damage may exceed billions (replaced infected hardware) and the loss of productivity will be even greater.

Its one of those tit for tat things, spammers step it up, security steps up, spammers go a bit further, security is pushed a bit further, there will always be a natural balance...... The way your talking, spammers are going gain complete control, which will never happen, for every step forward spammers take there will be someone, some organization developing apps to counter measure those strides ......

Sounds like you worry too much, I've never focused that much effort on Spyware or Viruses, I've had a few bad ones on my computer, the one that really pissed me off was the one that came up 5 seconds after I logged in saying the computer will restart in 60 seconds and it did every single time, try to fix a virus in 60 seconds is not easy.

I once did a test on my computer I took down every single spyware and virus detector I had, even disabled my firewall left it wide open for attacks and it was kind of funny because in 2 months of doing that my computer ran better then in the years before but as you can tell from the above paragraph I eventually got hit with that bad one.

jerxs is right though spammers and spyware will never completely take over, the only way that will happen is if major companies stop building better programs which they won't because they would loose out on millions.

Reminds me of a guy I once knew, he used to write viruses and sell them to the anti virus software firms. Kind of like recipies, if he could come up with it then so could someone else.

I think its always going to the spammers do one thing then theres a solution, then something else ....

The best thing I have on my PC for spam is cloudmark .... If I think somethings slipped through my AV sorftwarethen I run hijackthis and run the log it creates through hijackthis.de

What????? You'd better put a tinfoil hat on your harddrive.

Spammers and malicious virus writers are not after the same goals. One wants to sell you something, the other wants to inflict damage. Why would spammers want to damage your system? They wouldn't be able to sell you anything!
