Wisconsin labor breaking bill passes just to screw the Dems.

Wis. GOP bypasses Dems, cuts collective bargaining - Yahoo! News

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Senate voted Wednesday night to strip nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers, approving an explosive proposal that had rocked the state and unions nationwide after Republicans discovered a way to bypass the chamber's missing Democrats.

All 14 Senate Democrats fled to Illinois nearly three weeks ago, preventing the chamber from having enough members present to consider Gov. Scott Walker's "budget-repair bill" — a proposal introduced to plug a $137 million budget shortfall.

The Senate requires a quorum to take up any measures that spend money. But Republicans on Wednesday separated from the legislation the proposal to curtail union rights, which spends no money, and a special committee of lawmakers from both the Senate and Assembly approved the bill a short time later. ...

School should be completely privatized anyway. Public schools have no competition and no reason to give students the best education possible.

Take that runaway democrats! Now they are going to start whining about fairness and Civil Rights. Here's a tip: Dont run off to another state and say you are doing it for the people.

All I'm hearing from unionites is I'm an ass hole. Blame the guys who ran out of state to delay the inevitable.

How immature of them to run off. I wonder how many will get re-elected?

Well here's the thing. Wisconsin has been a heavily democratic state for a long time, and a big reason for that is the unions. The unions are one of the largest contributors to the Democrats in this state. Considering what just happened the Democrats stand a very good chance of being elected the next term, but then again for the wrong reasons. If they promise any kind of cut with the unions it's pretty much a shoe in, which is wrong.

One of the big things I hate about various articles that chronicled this with such quotes at "they passed it in 30 min". And all you can do is laugh, because this has been an ongoing saga for a few weeks. They didn't magically pass this bill, and the Democrats has plenty of time to come back to vote (which they would have lost). So whatever.

The main problem I see with this, that nobody seems to be talking about with these changes is that they are going to take millions of dollars out of the local economy here in Wisconsin. These public employees spend money and they spend a lot of money in this state. Many of these people haven't seen a raise in 10 years so they already live on tight budgets. The will have no choice other than to stop spending or certainly curtail there spending. At that point the people that put him in office are going to start to wonder why their sales are off for there local business's and will soon realize why. Then the dam Dem's will bus in the homeless from Milwaukee (after giving them a carton of cigarettes) and we will have democrap controlled government for at least 10 years after this. The good news this little ploy will more than likely propel Walker to a Presidential Nomination.

You must be a product of a public school then if you aren't aware of the existence of private schools, the oldest of which goes back to 1628, charter and parochial schools.

This is a good step in the right direction but from what I understand this bill does not include the most egregious offenders when it comes to retirement benefits and that's police and fire.

Police and fire unions are like the ultra-rich in this country now in that they buy off both parties prior to elections. It happened here in CA with police and fire buying off both Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman prior to the gubernatorial race. Basically it didn't matter who won; they were protected either way and obviously in WI, police and fire have also bought and paid for Scott Walker.

Not sure how I feel about this... If Walker was intent on going after public employee unions, he should have gone after all of them.

I think that the ultra-rich are the ultra-rich in the US.
Its a bit strange to see so many affiliate marketers bashing the unions and supporting wealthy businessmen. These are the same entities that crashed the values of your savings, and then milked your tax dollars for a bailout. Now they are going to eliminate the unions, who have been a counterbalance for their activities.

Think: is it the millionaire business owner who buys your shit, or is it the 54 year old mom in the suburbs? Everything that hurts the average joe also hurts your affiliate business. Right now.

There's a big difference between public sector unions and private sector unions and right now (at least here in CA, US) the public sector unions are doing the same thing that the Wall Street banks did... extorting the average tax payer for more and more money that they gambled and lost. Public employee union pensions have lost a lot of money (and they gambled as much as anyone on WallStreet) and now they need more and more money from the average tax payers to suport their exorbitant retirement plans...

Now they are going to eliminate the unions, who have been a counterbalance for their activities.

Please explain to me how public employee unions have been a counter balance to what has been happening on Wall Street?

Most people get this but most people also realize that in order for their to be growth there has to be capital and right now all this country has is a ton of debt. That's a recipe for disaster.

Sure there will be some pain but I believe most are hoping for a more financially secure future and not one that includes every single city and state in this country filing for bankruptcy.

I'd assume most people here are self driven. Why the fuck do you need to pay union dues to union bosses so they can bargain a better wage for you? Aren't there already laws in place to protects workers in the USA?

Anyways, that wealthy business man is getting penalized because he's rich. There's some sort of fucking weird thing that tells people here that because somebody has been had millions he should be penalized for it.

Most of what happened was a mix if private and government fuckups which led to a collapse. The dems pushed through legislation awhile ago that made the banks hand out mortgages to people who can't afford them.

The millionaire business owners are the ones who employ all the sheep we sell to so I'm more thankful for them supplying the jobs.

Good piece on unions:

The Myth of Voluntary Unions - Thomas J. DiLorenzo - Mises Daily

The first half of this piece is semi-related*:

My Reply to Krugman on Austrian Business-Cycle Theory - Robert P. Murphy - Mises Daily

* Scarce resources are best allocated by the price system of a free market economy. Once you understand this, you realize that every disruption of the market raises prices and causes shortages. Unions are parasites that rely upon the state to confiscate and redistribute private property. It's no different than if I were to hire an armed thug to take your car.

If I get a few people to agree with hiring a thug to take your car, then we'd have a system of voting. (lol at voters)

Side note: if any of you follow Krugman's nonsense, you'll enjoy the second half of the Murphy piece.

A friend of mine is a state trooper in WI and has been working close to 100 hours a week, earning time and a half, double time and even triple time for the hours he works over 40 per week, basically just to stand at the capitol. While his wife(a teacher) is told she must take a pay cut and lose her collective bargaining rights to help balance the budget. All this shit, the protests, the dems fleeing the state could have been avoided if the bill left collective bargaining alone. The people who support this bill and are against the unions are either the people like the Koch Bros. who are already wealthy and seeking power or they are poor and lower middle class supporters of the union busting drive who possess an instinctive subservience. They want to trust big business and assume it would be a kindly overlord. They want to defer to their betters. Essentially, they want to be slaves, although they certainly do not recognize this themselves.

This is for public sector unions which should have been reigned in on a long fucking time ago. Why the fuck should public employees be held on some sort of pedestal over the private sector which pays their salaries and pensions?

They should set a level playing field for them and start contributing to their shit like the rest of us. It's just not fair and that's why so many people are pissed. It's only getting the public sector in order and not affecting any private unions so I don't see what the big fuss is about.

Anyone who says that the Democrats "ran away" are blinded by the picture. Basically there is not democracy going on. It is WALKER saying this is what I am doing and FUCK YOU if you want anything else.

The Democratic senators basically had no choice but to flee to try and salvage what they could. You can look at it from your angle but, the senators have not been on a vacation. The thing that has upset me during the past couple years is how the Democrats have done nothing but appease the Republicans, offer concessions, negotiate bills and debate things. Only to have then turn around and SAY FUCK YOU WE HAVE POWER NOW...
