Isn't a bigger concern the 4000+ children dying every day from drinking dirty water?!
Our strongsuits here lend themselves to online ventures.

Water Filtration takes nothing at all but money, money and more money. -So if you wish to reduce us to passing around a hat then it would serve that purpose well.

I posted something similar to this before. I think it would be easier to pick a charity and offer free SEO/website services. From http://www.wickedfire.com/shooting-shit/107229-wickedfire-social-good-project.html

Starting a new thread on this to kick around some ideas and possibly get something going.

The idea is to select a charity/non-profit in dire need of a website/internet marketing/social media facelift, and work as a group to give them a kick ass web presence, in order to help them raise awareness for their cause and generate money through donations.

Members of Wickedfire would donate their time/money/services pro-bono. Everyone here is good at something. Let's put our heads and talents together to actually make a difference in the world.

Ideally, we would have organizations apply for their "makeover". We could also take nominations, for example if you knew a local animal shelter who really needed a new site, and knew someone who worked there. Obviously, we would need to come to terms with the business owner, and have them agree that they wanted us working on their site (some sort of contract would need to be created).

This could be a quarterly, yearly, or even monthly project. Once we get a few non-profits under our belt, hopefully word would spread, and we could even get a few actual for-profit customers.

Potential "services" we could offer:
  • Website design/development
  • Hosting
  • Microsites
  • CMS Integration/make it easier for them to manage
  • Innovation/Add new functionality to their site (in the animal shelter example, allow the staff to easily add new pets for adoption, custom widgets, RSS feeds could alert potential owners when new pets are available, etc)
  • Blog and website content (I'm looking at you, copywriters)
  • On-page SEO and keyword research
  • Local SEO
  • Link building (we should probably stick to white hat/article marketing etc, I would stay away from xrumer/blog posts)
  • Set up ways for people to donate money to their organization
  • Social media (FB, Twitter, Digg, Reddit etc)

Things we need to decide:
Name of our group/organization
Website/portfolio for our group
How it all would work/process
Legal stuff

So I've been thinking about setting up a new site where 100% of money earned goes to charity. There are a ton of smart people on wickedfire, so I was just seeing if anybody else would be interested in helping out.

No idea on what niche we'd go after or any of that other stuff, so feel free to discuss that or just tell me this is a retarded idea.

This shit could be mainstream.

Pedobear and the lasses from the skittles threads would be a great help to the WF community implemeting this noble cause. Just sayin.

So I guess it's helping to find lost kids, eh. Here I wrote a teaser that we can fax and email to all the newspapers to get some real press coverage...

We are the members of www.WickedFire.com and we are concerned citizens too.

Sure if you come to our community and ask for advice out of the blue we’ll tell you to fuck off.

If you’re a female we’ll insist you post naked pictures of yourself.

Make a stupid post and we’ll dickroll you at www.makemoniesonline.com .

And yeah we can sometimes take the whole ethnic thing to a new level. But niggah please, like you never do?

And yes we have encouraged some troubled members to just go ahead and kill themselves. But we were pretty they sure they wouldn’t really.

Oh sure, there have been some allegations of; well here look for yourself www.wickedfire.com/shooting-shit/34115-skittles.html -- but hey, that was in jest; we’d never lust over a minor.

And speaking of minors, we’ve decided to get together to help find lost kids. Nah this ain’t like some NAMBLA kinda shit – I told you we’re concerned citizens too. Come to our website and you decide for yourself!

This is of course just a first draft. What do you think?

I think that I will fuck up my Karma account dipping my toes in this project, I will for sure never end up in hell if I help out.

LOL; that'll convince them all that we're legit!

I'd love to contribute to this. I'd be willing to donate for banner space, media or whatever else you guys can think of that you might need. Cool idea.

Don't just up and let this die people...

I don't have much to offer accept my BLG and DFB accounts.. But i will gladly do anything asked of me.

Any Status updates on this?

Personally I think while hack's idea is great, it's never actually going to get done by any of us because it requires a shit ton of work. I could be wrong and hack and a group of others could be working on it as we speak.

I still think it'd be much easier to set up a profitable site and then use those profits to donate to a charity that the participants agree/vote on.

I'm sure eli/smaxor would be happy to throw us a decent offer from their networks which would mean somebody can't just run off with all of the earnings.

Webair could sponsor the hosting (or I can just pay for it) and the $9 reg fee is not an issue.

To make things a bit more interesting we could turn it into a bit of a case study and then people from the b/s/t can donate links etc. I'm good for 1mill xrumer links to point at tier 2 and tier 3 shit.

OK maybe we can't launch the digitalmilkcarton.org or whatever you want to call it

Not saying that we can't...but IF we can't commit to such a massive undertaking so what?... then lets do something

I don't care if it's a "man boobs of wickedfire calender"

I'm not ready to lift my shirt yet though...

I really like this idea a little bit better. If we set up a site in a competitive niche and loaded it with some killer offers, then everyone worked at driving traffic, we could make a boat load of money to be donated to whatever charity very quickly. No doubt that with the resources of this forum we could rank for any keyword in days, and really drive heavy volume to the site. I mean I could be wrong here, but I don't many people have extensive experience running a charity, but we all know how to drive traffic, right?

This is not a retarded idea.

I know what niche we should do. Missing children niche, seeing missing kids all over milk cartons, supermarket billboards and if they are lucky in a newspaper coupon section is not enough. I don't read any of that shit and when I go to the supermarket I don't look at the billboards.

So what I'm suggesting is creating an agency that gets auto-approved by facebook, google, and microsoft for missing kids. So for instance if a child is reported missing in Miami we would create a facebook fanpage instantly then put up an ad for a certain radius around the area they went missing and it's approved automatically so people can see.

^^Very unorganized thought atm but we can innovate on top of that idea. Milk cartons and billboards is so 1950. We on the internets niggaaaa

Genius Idea.

If the WF community decide to implement this. I'll help in any way i can. Including implementing and marketing it in the UK.

posted by Barclay & Riddle:
If you consider that the Amber Alert system saves 1 in every 8 child that goes missing by advertising via radio broadcasts, TV commercials, and the occasional billboard, it only makes sense that bringing their ad campaigns up to speed with today's technological advances will improve that number.

Amber Alert has been doing this for years via WirelessAmberAlerts.org You enter your number, opt in to specific geos, and get the alerts in real time. People who are opted into the wireless AA program receive alerts long before and with greater regularity than those who happen to run across them on the television or radio.

Not to piss on your idea or anything; it's a great idea. Just saying that it already exists and is keyed into the main missing children information network out there.
