...and I was feeling generous. I ordered a pizza from pizza hut's website, and in multiple places it tells me to tip the driver. Here's the checkout, and on the previous page I had a similar reminder.

I gave the driver a $20 bill and asked for $2 back. He gave me a dirty look.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this dumb idea that I should feel obligated to pay the driver a tip. Why doesn't pizza hut (and all delivery places) just increase the delivery charge?

i did this too the other night and wrote out a check for the exact amount with 0 tip, and just had my little nephew hand it to him so i dont have to deal with the shithead delivering it.

I know tipping for pizzas is much more common in the States, it's not really expected here in the UK. If it is a wknd night and the guy brings the order fast then I'll give him a few pounds for his troubles (the actual order is paid by PayPal). Oh and Domino's is the one man, Pizza Hut sucks ass.:)

not this shit again. Whether or not to tip is one of the longest standing internet arguments ever. The funny thing is, I have never run into this debate in real life.

80 cents? You're probably gonna get some fecal matter sprinkled on your next pizza.

80 cents? WTF. I did that once and I felt HORRIBLE. 10% minimum please, 15% if they did a good job. 30% if it's a white guy

Delivering pizza is one of the most dangerous jobs in the US. They are third most likely to be murdered on the job, right after police officer and taxi driver. If you don't like tipping move somewhere else where tipping is not expected or just phone order and pick it up yourself.

There's a solution to everything.

always tip. what you don't make enough money?

it's not like your paying for the pizza or rent so tell mom to hook it up.

I wouldn't order from them again if I were you.

I guess it varies by company, but I delivered pizzas in college and was never given the delivery charge. We were paid .50 per run + hourly, but with gas as expensive as it is that hardly covers the cost and let alone allows you to profit. Don't forget, short in town driving is particularly hard on your car and there is additional maintenance that goes along with doing the extra driving.

UK Dominoes is way different from American Dominoes, or at least it was 10 years ago. It's good, but totally different style of pizza than what we get here.
