So Luke...what are your thoughts on why state officials can't erect new "security companies" and then pass a law declaring overflows of prisoners be put in their own prisons...or some such thing?

Seems like such an easy way for our state gov to make some additional coin on the side while ensuring the safety of its citizens at the same time.

Is it as simple as not being able to raise taxes anymore to pay for more prisons?
 


Good. Prison does NOT reform people. The only ones who are should in prison are people who are violent, rapist and people who commit crimes with victims.
 
And those who don't feel like getting married. Oh wait, me too. Fuck... Too much of those jails are for victimless crime. No wonder it's full. Everything is illegal it's difficult to live without breaking the law.

I'd have to hear more details to say for sure, but this sounds a bit problematic too... Actually everything is too problematic until they make fewer things illegal.

Except that the government has never been known to actually make a profit and run things without some kind of ultra-bureaucracy popping up. Heck, the prisons WERE run like that until Reagan came along with his war on drugs and started giving all the power and money to the private corporations to do our job for us. (In his defense the state-run prisons were no model of perfection then, either.)

No. It's as simple as "you can't get anything passed in Washington without it being in some rich corporations best interest."

As far as I know the following is true:

1. Felons can be State or Federal.

2. You can go to jail for a misdemeanor.

3. Some Felons can vote.

It is possible that I am wrong. But I believe I am right.

I'm a felon, and I vote.

Of course, every state is different but since this is about California - yes they have the right to vote too. In fact, there's only a few states that take away your right to vote for a felony conviction.

inmates used to work. building roads, making license plates, repaying their debt to society. Now they watch TV and eat taxpayer money.

When I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I've always been taught that felons can't vote or own handguns. I don't know any felons IRL, so I've never really questioned it.

Neither can Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, or dead people, but somehow Acorn and some other groups were able to round up what has been estimated as a lot of fucking votes for Obama from such people.

I can see it now. The release date will be on election day, and there will be buses outside of the prison gates with cigarettes, hookers, and wads of cash. Destination? A polling booth.

I wouldn't think you'd have time to do that, with all the Reddit posting and whatnot. It's pretty hard to find a single thread on Reddit these days where you haven't decided that the world needs to hear you bitch about one more thing.
