Another poker zinger...

" Eleven bank accounts were also seized in the United States, Guam, Panama, Malta, Portugal and the Netherlands."

This is the part that bothers me. WTF is Panama doing?

They are rapidly losing their appeal to those seeking offshore accounts.

Idiots.

They got raped. They signed deals with the U.S just like Switzerland did.

Yeah, it's amazing how many major news outlets get this wrong (the UIGEA didn't make online gambling illegal). It really opened my eyes at how wrong the media probably is on a regular basis.

It's funny how whenever the media reports on something or someone you know a lot about, they are always offensively WRONG about EVERYTHING. But when they are reporting on something you don't really know about, you are far more likely to listen to them. I stopped watching the news a long time ago for this reason. It's ridiculous.

I'm going to guess the media is incorrect about this as well, as they were with the Black Friday reporting... the only accounts that were probably seized were those in the US. They'd sure like to seize the others but will have a long fight to do so through the court systems in the host countries where the accounts are located.

In other news the US justice system continues to abuse their powers to unlawfully (IMO) seize domain names of businesses that they don't like.

This is all such a bunch of bullshit I can't even talk about it because it makes me so mad.

Not only that, but they manipulate the story to make it more appealing to the masses. This is exactly how I learned just how corrupt media is as well. And this is also why I quit paying attention to major media

I am not a lawyer, so take this with a grain of salt.

There is a very strong money laundering case associated with this online Poker fiasco, so I personally do lean towards the possibility that their money was in fact seized from Panama and other offshore jurisdictions.

Panama for example won't protect you from criminal matters that are illegal in both Panama and the United States. Money laundering happens to be something that is illegal in both jurisdictions.

Although the media is dead wrong about many things, including the fact that online gambling is illegal in the US (Only sports betting is), I doubt they are wrong about the bank accounts that were seized.

You see, in order to get around UIGEA you have to hide the origin of the money in order process it in the US, therefore all US transactions were purposefully mislabeled to look like innocent e-commerce transactions that had nothing to do with poker or gambling. Like it or not, this is money laundering and many offshore jurisdictions take it seriously.
