What Was the Hardest Time In Your Life?

About 2 years ago my wife found out on the same day that her brother had terminal colon cancer and her sister had Multiple Myeloma (a rare type of blood cancer). 6 months later her brother was dead at 46 years old and her sister battled for about 8 months and died at 44 years old. I was there for most of the time that my wife was back helping take care of her siblings and it was heartbreaking. Her sister left behind a husband and two daughters who were just graduating high school. She was probably the nicest person I've ever met. Four months after her sister died, my aunt who had been battling cancer for 4 years passed away. We helped take care of her as well for the last couple weeks of her life. During this time my job was horrible, I was making no money and things were looking pretty bad financially. This year long stretch was probably the hardest I've gone through to date...let alone what my wife went through losing a brother and sister in less than one year.

That's crazy man, sorry to hear that. That combination of things of shitty job + loved ones dying can make life a living hell, egh :/

I was pretty hard last night, came all over the shirt I bought her at this tiny beach shop. It was worth the adversity of cleaning up the mess.

On a serious note, ^^ did happen btw...

I spent three years in the Japanese penal system for a fight I was in.
Seriously? Some more info about this would be cool. Also, write a book about it and get $$$.

This past week and a half is arguably the hardest time I've gone through (in recent memory), so it got me thinking: what's the worst shit you've been through--that you can remember? I'm sure there is someone who can put this into perspective for me, I'll start.

This past week and a half:

-Friend died
-Lost tons of sites/content rankings and consequently a lot of income
-Learned of potential lawsuit
-Fuck ton of small problems, i.e. ridiculous car problems, fights with people, etc.

I'm actually pretty sure I'm leaving some stuff out, but this past week and a half has been unreal for me. Someone want to top me?
Sorry to hear that man. When it rains it pours right? From what I've seen of you I'm confident you'll come out of it on top, you seem like one of those types of guys that always prevails.
Maybe you can find some time to step back from the situations. Find some alone time somewhere relaxing where you can get all the worries out of the way, see the problems in a new light and as separate problems rather than bundling them. Then you can come out of it determined and kick all their asses.

I don't know what that is--do you know what Sunnyvale Trailer Park is though? lol

That's the worst I've been through and probably the only moment in life I wish I could go back to and change. I don't remember for how long, but I stayed in the bedroom 24/7 after the accident... Didn't want to talk to anybody, couldn't even come out and look in the eyes of my new parents in law. They are not blaming me and were not, but I just felt guilty for being at the steering wheel. I was not driving for a long time after the accident and still freak out whenever the truck swings on the freeway.

Definitely sounds like a nightmare, thanks for sharing though--life is fucked sometimes.

What I have been going through lately pales in comparison to what I read here. My 85 year old father passed on May 3 while I was out of town on business. My daughter waited two days to tell me. Said she couldn't get in touch with me ( I carry a cell phone).

I have had a great relationship with Dad these past five years while he was fighting cancer. Went with him to chemo treatments, doctor visits, and a minor surgery.

Then out of the blue I get hit with this: My daughter had him change his will the day before he died having me disinherited. She arraigned all of the funeral preparations and only had the obit run the day before the funeral. A lot of his friends couldn't attend because of short notice.

Seems to me my daughter has turned into a gold digger of the worst kind. Needless to say I'm pretty bitter and upset with her at the moment. Not real sure I want to have anything to do with her ever again. And that is the saddest part of it all.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I lost my bf when he was 22 (I was 23) to testicular cancer.

The rest is just the cyclical nature of things.

And nah I don't want to exchange tales of woe. But fwiw my life has always been one extreme or the other.

That's just life dude -- it just plain fucking sucks at times.

Sorry to hear about it man. My best friend OD'd on oxy's a few years ago - I couldn't even function at the funeral. As far as your business goes, you'll find a way to get it back to where it used to be - you're a smart guy.

I've toed the line of nihilism because of some of the shit I've gone through in the last few years, but one thing that always recenters me is realigning my perspective of time. It's easy to get caught up in the short term fuckuppery that surrounds you and forget life is a long long path.

One easy exercise is to think back 10 years ago and remember what you were doing...think about how COMPLETELY different life was just 10 years ago for you. Shit can and will always change, just hang in there.

Things will get better.

I think my lowest point happened when I was 21, so about 10 years ago:

1. Lost my job
2. Hence, lost my apartment
3. Lost my fiance after months of not getting along whatsoever.
4. Was in a huge fight with my family at the time as well.

It was a very rough time in my life to have so many things happen almost back to back and almost no one to turn to. Ended up living in my car for a few weeks until I could get things straightened out. But, the important thing is that I didn't give up and just kept plugging along.

That's still pretty fucked up. If I were you I'd watch out, you never know what lengths some people will go to get money.

Thanks a lot, really appreciate that, Oxy's are terrible.

Years of addiction where I spiraled down to almost losing everything. Let's say I found out a couple years ago that money isn't the root of happiness.

I actually read that before, don't remember when. Thanks for posting though, definitely a good example of recovering. Good job man.

I do this sometimes, need to do it a lot more, thanks man.

I'm lucky that this doesn't make me feel like a defeated dipshit/want to give up--which is really probably one of the most valuable things I've got. Thanks for sharing though, all this helps put the reality of the situation into perspective big time.

Came in here to post smartass "two girls at the same time" response but goddamn, you guys are dealing with some shit. Keep your chin up, it will get better. And worse. And better. That's life. Live it to it's fullest.

My hardest was when I left school and moved out from parent's house when I was 16.

Found a job at the local car repair shop that paid slave wage, had a one room apartment in a neighborhood where I was going sleep with the sounds of gun shots. And then the shit started.

I had to make money - so I with other people were stealing diesel fuel from trucks in truck night parking areas, until one night we messed with the wrong people - both of my arms broken, my friend in coma, and another mate died and charges in police. Met too many "wrong" people that got me into all kinds of shit - stealing, racketeering, car jacking, fighting, kicking someone's ass, getting my ass kicked and other shit.

After some time I was walking down the streets paranoid all the time, couldn't go to a pub or bar, woke up at night 3 or 4 times, stress and then depression, suicidal thoughts and actually planning one suicide, over the limit booze and drugs. Don't know how I got out of it alive, and in one piece. No more of that shit.

The people that continued after me, most of them now are either dead, in prison or burned out on booze or drugs. Few are doing the same as they did, but that's only for a moment, lifestyle like that is not the most healthiest.
