Need help choosing between the following pickups. I play mostly heavy metal and neoclassical metal. I'm starting to do more shows -- so I want my guitar to sound it's best.

Dimarzio "The Breed" Bridge (DP166):

or
DiMarzio "D Activator" (bridge)

Also, I want to buy a new guitar. I was thinking of getting the Ibanez JEM (Steve Vai signature-guitar) :

OR

The Dean Razorback 7 string

Also, if you have other electric guitar recommendations, please let me hear them. Price isn't an object here.

I'm a strat guy myself.

But really man, with guitars, you just have to play them. Hookup to an amp in the store, try the guitars/pickups through a similar amp that you'll play through.

Tone/touch/etc is really a personal thing.

I've played American Strats that I didn't like.

And I've played $99 Chinese acoustics that I thought sounded phenomenal for the price.

I wouldn't buy a guitar site unseen. Especially a nice one, I'd play the shit out of it first to make sure it's what I want. Just my .02.

The amp is extremely important. You could have the most expensive guitar in the world but with a shitty amp it won't be any different from a $300 ibanez. I'd go for EMG 81/85 or Seymour Duncan Blackouts if you're into metal (especially shredding). I love Jacksons, recently got myself an RR24. If I were to buy another guitar now I'd either go for Dean or RAN (custom guitar company from Poland).

This. EMG 81/85 + RR Jackson = Shredding

Nah, I already have a few amps. Marshall JCM800, Line 6 Spider 100W, and a few other small ones. They all sound great.

EDIT: Sorry 150W

i hate dimarzio pickups. see what seymour duncan's competition is on those models and try them out, too.

JEM's are nice guitars. But just man up and buy a Suhr :)

I'd say EMG 85/81s

Don't randomly pick a guitar , go to a store and try out as many guitar & amp combos as you possibly can. Most of the time people will go in wanting one thing and come out with something completely different.
