Another Quit My Job Thread

So let me get this straight ... you got jelly of your cohorts because they busted ass for a 4 years degree while you sniff balls, play WoW and watched DVDs.

Maybe IM isn't for you.

No income online, but I plan on slaving away freelancing (articles etc) for a few months.

No income yet eh? Who wants to get some over/under bets going on how long before OP is back working a deep frier at Mickey Ds?

In all seriousness, if you were going to make a serious go at providing services why don't you have a thread in BST yet? #nohustle

Fuck that, you can't have one day a month off.

This shit is a business and a new business there is no time for days off or bullshit time.

if you really think you can't have days off... you're doing it wrong

the idea of working for yourself also includes having free time... not sitting in front of a computer 24/7

@op ... 100 a day... damn that's very low... but a good starting point... personally I don't think its a good idea to quit without having made some "steady" income online...

OP, don't quit just yet. I like your initial goal of $100 per day, but you need to set smaller stepping stone goals. When I first started, my goal was $10/day, then 50, 100, etc.

I'm making around $200-250/day profits now, but I still don't see it as being enough to be a sole source of income. Because in this industry, you never know when Google will buttfuck you by banning your AdSense account or fuck with your SERPs, or a competitor will DDoS your sites, or an affiliate network will stiff you on your leads, etc.

In fact, I'm moving in 2 weeks to start a new day job @ 60k/year + benefits. Some people think I'm being dumb by taking a job that pays less than my IMing business. I disagree, because having a day job doesn't mean I'm quitting IM. Just gonna do both; hence I will make more money. If your job is slightly above min wage (I guess you're making $8 or $9 an hour?) then go get a job that makes you $10-12 and work 35-40 hours a week. Don't make excuses. If you can't get an $11/hr job, then you don't deserve it.

I am going to assume you don't have any clear cut revenue source online (manual labor like writing doesn't count). If your goal is to make $100/day online, you can realistically get to that level before 2012 by putting in 3-4 hours of solid work per day. Between that and your job, you will have to work around 60 hours a week.

If you're willing to take the plunge, good luck bro. Nothing is guaranteed in IM, but if you strike gold I bet you'll never look back twice.

I wouldn't have quit without (1) savings for 1 year at least if your income will be AM, and/or (2) solid business idea that you've done preliminary testing on to gauge potential. What's done is done though, don't distract yourself by over-thinking actions you've already made.. I wish you tons of success.

Do you live with your parents? How could you manage to not be homeless being such a fucking lazy bastard?

BTW, I'm 28, have a wife, kid, and multiple businesses. I battled crippling anxiety, depression, and losing my ass financially after a company collapsed, hence why I'm doing IM. I didn't boo-hoo and piss and moan about my friends being more successful than me. I just grabbed my ballsack and went to work. Got a job doing shit I don't like doing, because I HAVE A FAMILY TO FEED.

Working a regular job SUCKS, but you have to do it if you have mouths to feed. Tired? FUCK YOU TIRED. Talk to a single Mom and see how it feels to raise kids AND work 2 jobs just to barely make ends meet... But she works her ass off to make sure she doesn't mooch off food stamps and welfare.

Think you're gonna take time off? FUCK YOU TIME OFF - I haven't had a vacation because I don't have time to relax when I have money to make. I don't want to work for an employer, which is why I spend my nights after my wife and kid go to sleep building my businesses instead of jerking off watching porn and smoking weed like everyone else.

It's called life, and it sucks a lot of times. Deal with it you pussy.

PS: If you were my friend I wouldn't be "lenient on the rent." I'd throw you out on the fucking street for being a lazy-ass motherfucker. Pay your bills on time.

@OP - I mean this in a loving, compassionate way, but: FUCKING GROW A PAIR.

Stop worrying about what other people think of you. You'll miss your life like that. Go out, take drugs, fuck girls, have fun. Who cares if you friends are becoming lawyers? Who the fuck wants to be a lawyer?

Employed people will NEVER understand what it means to be totally in charge of your own destiny, unless they decide to make the jump themselves. You might as well try to explain the rules of cricket to a dog.

They're projecting their fears onto you - not because they're bad or stupid, because that's what's humans do. Ignore them, and get on with enjoying yourself.

lol you serious? If you're in your mid 20's and making $5 an hour and your only hobbies are partying and doing drugs, that's not "being in charge of your own destiny," that's failing.

I have a degree in economics but I've never had a job. Started IM junior year and was making enough by the time I graduated to not even bother looking for a job. That being said, I still think there are some careers that would be a lot of fun even if you're not your own boss - personally I've always been interested in corporate law and neurosurgery.

@OP not trying to be a dick but I agree with some of the other people in that you don't seem to have much drive. Fucking around and watching DVDs all day not doing shit? Come on son. I watched 1 episode of America's Got Talent this week and I think that's all the TV I've watched in months. If I get an important email while I'm out with a girl I'll completely ignore her to sit there and reply to it. You don't seem like the kind of guy who could do that. But if you think you are, go ahead and prove us all wrong.

and about the friend who's lenient on the rent - unless he's just ballin outta control and doesn't give a shit about the rent, he's not gonna be your friend for long if you keep skimping out on him

Did I mention I love you?

To me, one of the most important characteristics of an entrepreneur vs. the average joe are that you have to be okay with not having that job security. If job security isn't something that is particularly important to you and are willing to sacrifice in the short run to know that you'll be completely self employed and ballin' in the long run, then you're already half way there.

I heard a quote once that said "Living as an entrepreneur a few years of your life as most people won’t, enables you to spend the rest of your life living like most people can’t.”

Now that you quit your job you have no choice but to make something happen. Good luck!!

It's probably too late to get your job back now but you're really taking a gamble by quitting without having a costant and somewhat stable source of online income. And you probably don't have much saved up either.

One thing you should know is that it is hard to achieve a truely stable income source in this business. Even if you're making hundreds or even thousands in profits a day for many months it doesn't mean that it continue to last.

My cousin who introduced me to this biz didn't quit his day job until he was making about $30k to $50k in profits a month for almost 2 years and through diversified sources of SEO and PPC.

However a lot of is successful PPC campaigns started to die down and just a few months ago Google updated their algorithm that hurt his sites. A good chunk of his SEO sites took a massive drop in traffic and revenue. Now he's down to just $8-$10k monthly the last few months. Of course that's still very decent and on top of that his dad recently passed away last year and left him a ton of assets including a few houses, an apartment, and probably tons in cash and stock too.

But however imagine if you were making $3,000 or $5,000 a month online for a while. It's enough to live on in most places if you're single and so you think you had made it in the online world and would only continue to increase your income.

Then all of his a sudden you drop down to $800 to $1,000 a month. Think then would you be able to pay your rent/mortage or bills? Would you have enough money saved up to weather the storm? Did you save some of the money you earned for a rainy day, did you reinvest all the profits you can back in the business, or did you spend it all on stuff that makes you happy?

+rep post of the century. BTW the part about having a regular job, well...

I have a very flexible job pretty much make my own schedule and no bullshit when I started giving myself more free time to work on my biz I had a very hard time being productive for long periods of time.

I went back to working my normal hours because even though it gave me less time to work, I get super annoyed/pissed off/irritated at work and then I come home and grind like a motherfucker because working a shitty job is one of the only things that really lights a fire under my ass.

Has anyone else experienced this?

You just need more pressure. more pressure = more progress.
That's how it is for me.
