Your shitty money management skills are genetic

Another way to blame all of your problems and laziness on someone/something else.

Lol @ another excuse for losers to remain losers. "hey it's not my fault - it's my genes, so I'm just destined to remain poor"

We are what we think we are.

They're not saying that losers are using excuses... it's discussing whether or not being a loser is genetic.

With that said, I agree with everything turbolapp said.

IQ makes you need less work ethic. Eg. I cruised through high-school and college (up to this point) rarely studying and writing all my papers in a couple hours the night before they were due. Not great work ethic, but I still have a 4.0. I have friends who spend hours a day doing school work and don't come close to my GPA. So IQ doesn't give you work ethic, but it can make up for your lack of it in areas.

I completely disagree. You didn't cruise through high-school because of genetics, you cruised through because you put in more work when you were younger. Your parents probably cared about you more and had you doing smart shit when you were little whereas your friends fucked around. After ten years all of that added up into what you then considered being "genetically" smart - though in fact it isn't genetics but years of hard work.

lol math disorder.

You ever think that this stuff isn't "disorders" ? Just what makes everyone different from each other. I mean if we could all do everything the exact same what a boring world this would be.

This being said, I just now realized my son when he was learning multiplication he would flip all the numbers in the weirdest way. And I remember thinking, it's almost dyslexic but with numbers. He's fine now, I guess he just learned how to flip them back or whatever you do to get your brain to recognize the "right"way to look at numbers.

Same reason why ADHD is overdiagnosed, people who are socially awkward suddenly all self-diagnose Aspergers, and Autism spectrum diagnoses are skyrocketing.

The ones above I listed all exist and are real problems for some people....but nowhere near the level they're being diagnosed at

I know a dropout sales agent, that will do circles around a math genius. Some people have both.

Enjoyed this book.

i suspect a drug for this will be available soon - if not already.

that being said, networks hit me up when you get the offer ;)

Man I was diagnosed as having Aspergers when I was something like 13 or 14 (I'm 26 now) because I met some criteria on some tests I took as part of this battery of psychology tests I was taking because the schools here made you take them if you were being considered for skipping a grade. I was like lol ass burgers and that's been about all I gave a shit about it. It's so weird because I was never socially awkward or seemed too fucked up except I always seemed more emotionally detached than my peers. This fucker who was doing the tests wanted to put me on some anti-anxiety meds and I argued with the guy that I'm not anxious, eventually making an ass out of myself suggesting things that I would do to prove I wasn't anxious (my logic being that someone who was anxious wouldn't do what I was suggesting) like ask the receptionist for a blowjob.

Years later, I had a girlfriend (now fiancee) who actually has some pretty bad anxiety to the point where she has seizures from it on a semi-regular basis, like she can't have a driver's license now until she goes 6 months without having a seizure or whatever. So we're at some psych person's office and she did these tests to try to figure out what the fuck was going on, and the test results indicated that she had (among a list of like 20 things) ADHD. I just about started shitting in my hands and throwing it at people when the woman we were talking to started beating around the bush about meds for it.

Shit that ended up longer of a rant than I thought it would become. But hey, the fiancee hasn't had a seizure in 4 months, the longest she's went without one since I've known her. Go her.

I know there is a such thing as dyslexia with numbers. I know someone who seems like they have it (not diagnosed), they mess up things like pin numbers or tell you the wrong phone number to call back if they took a message for you.

However, I don't think that would stop them from making a poor financial decision. If they take their time they don't make those mistakes. It's when they are doing things in a more automatic way that they make those mistakes without thinking about it.

I coasted through high school with a D average, and today I do more reading and studying on my own than I ever did in school. Public education caters to extroverts and concrete learners, if you don't fit into that mold, you can be a genius and still flunk out.

I disagree with the above statement that everyone in this thread just happens to have a high IQ and that's why we don't understand why some people end up poor. The fact is, everyone is good at something, but circumstances prevent some people from ever finding their niche. Not a single person in this thread would excel consistently in a career they hated.

What separates most rich from poor is risk appetite and persistence. Most people settle for security in return for sticking it out 8 hours a day at a job they cant stand. On the other hand, someone most would consider dumb as rocks, but who risked everything they owned, over and over again, would inevitably run out of mistakes and find success.

Didn't you guys get the memo? Everything is genetic now! It's not just your appearance, it's how you think and act, and even can dictate your moral values! You just kill a bunch of people? It's not your fault, it's genetic! It's the ultimate fatalist excuse.

It's not so simple. Some genes may predispose you to being smart, socially awkward or murderous while there are other genes that practically guarantee the above, all else being equal.

There is no clear-cut line. Any extreme POV is flawed - not only do nature and nurture BOTH play an important role in what you are, some genes only express themselves given the right conditions while others override any "nurture".

Read up on studies of twins separated at birth or stuff like how crime runs in families.
You just kill a bunch of people? It's not your fault, it's genetic! It's the ultimate fatalist excuse.
This is a double-edged sword. Haven't you heard of the UK's "genetic profiling" research involving identifying potential criminals before they commit a crime ala Minority Report?

Free will is an illusion.

All of our decision making is done by atoms which interact with each other. We have no control over any of that.

It's not an excuse. Just when you break down all of our actions to their building blocks it should be obvious that we really have no control over our traits, thoughts, and actions.

I do think some things are genetics related, where as others are just what people may THINK are genetically related. It all comes down to what that specific persons chemical make up is, imo.

Atomic is a completely different level from genetic. The waste products produced in our bodies at the atomic level are cleaned out by bodily processes encoded at the genetic level, while our intelligent brains try to enhance this process by exercising and drinking plenty of water at the conscious level.

On the grand scheme of things we may simply be gears in a cosmic machine, but like Heisenberg's electrons we may follow certain laws of nature yet we are not necessarily predictable. Life is a dance, not a movie.
