ahhh brilliant. If only our police and riot cops had remembered/realized that Vancouver consists of one straight built in a straight line.

Phewf, thank god we dont have intersections, alleyways, and crossroads like every other city.

Then it would have been a nightmare

Guys (and girls), quit feeding the trolls. Normally I will jump into shit like this but people in this thread are just trolling.

Anyone who thinks this is a representation of Vancouver or the rest of Canada is either a) lacking in intelligence, b) not worth your time and/or c) trolling you to get you riled up.

Just chill out :)

Not sure if its true, but apparently the guy's name in the red hat with the 40oz shirt is Steve Constancia. Hopefully they make an example out of him.

That street hero guy is the man

I forgot that vancouver doesn't have a single 50m stretch of road without an intersection.

Actually, it rarely does... not an intersection but unlike some cities we have back alleys in nearly every block and in the location where the riots kicked off there are loads of squares, buildings and open parking lots set back from the street (the QE Theater, the public library, the CBC building, etc. etc.). Also, the street the crowd was assembled on, Georgia Street, is a major 6 lane street including the parking lanes, not some narrow road easy to control. Very hard to contain anything there. That and the core of the proper riot police didn't turn up for quite some time so they just didn't have the manpower to push them back en masse. They had to bring in supporting personnel from outlying jurisdictions. A lot of the cops early in those videos were auxiliary police there to provide crowd control for the event, not riot control. Certainly they were ill prepared but lining the streets with riot police prior to anything actually happening is pretty stupid as well.

You assumed there are enough cops to make a straight line and hold the line if attacked by a potentially hostile crowd of many times their number. If you also look at the situation you're reffering to its in a freaking plaza dude, your grasp of tactics is terrible. You also have to remember your officers have lives too (That they'd like to keep living) so you have to minimize the damage, caging a lot of people in an small area between two walls of police, not the best idea.... Also, you assume that the crowd wants to disperse or will, peacefully. I'm so glad there were so many backup police on hand (/sarcasm), you know standing around, not taking care of the other mobs/looting/rioting throughout the city. Don't pretend you know what you're talking about when you don't...

The amount of incorrectness here is incredible. The only times Vancouver had riots was:

1935 - Battle of Ballantyne Pier

1938 - Bloody Sunday

1994 - Stanley Cup Riot, Vancouver

2002 - Guns N' Roses riot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada after their concert was cancelled.

2010 - Vancouver Winter Olympics Riot. Over Vancouver's homelessness crisis

The fact is you beady-eyed, maple syrup loving, floppy headed ice chuckers riot throughout your country a disproportionate amount of times in relation to the size of your nation's population when compared to other countries who claim to be as smart and socialist as you do.

America has had its share of riots after our Civil War, but everyone knows we're violent and we wear it on our sleeves. Just look at the respective national animals: Beaver | Bald Eagle.

I'm not your friend, pal.

AMERICA, FUCK YEA!

jk you have a blind eye in financials if you love america

LOL at people rioting about sports... didnt know they were on the team

i love when those fags that think they are tough shit get laid out or run away and say come at me as they back up

I asked my buddy about the police there since he works for VPD. He said they were unorganized. He was off and went in on his own accord to help. You would think if they were organized they would not have staff at home wondering if they should go in and help or not.

Vancouver`s my hometown, well it was until 9 years ago. It`s sad to see this happen, but I`m not surprised. What I`ve seen in all the videos is:

-A small percentage of losers causing problems
-A small percentage of brave people standing up to those losers (much respect)
-A whole lot of people standing around just watching, or enjoying the spectacle without participating.

If all those people just standing around watching had joined the brave ones who stood up, if the first guy to smash a window got knocked the fuck out by a swarm of people protecting the city, this shit would have stopped before it got started. But most people just stand there going "DURRR" and let themselves drift in whatever direction has the more dominant energy.

The human condition in a nutshell, really. Marketers take note.
