Got this message from Envato a few days ago. For the tl;dr crowd, here's the salient bit:

Marketplace Author Kriesi Achieves $750,000 in Sales!

Popular ThemeForest & CodeCanyon author Kriesi has exceeded $750,000 in sales and is the first Marketplace author ever to reach the last rung of the Elite component of the Envato Elite program. Kriesi's products are popular for a reason, beautifully elegant WordPress themes, site templates and plugins have all helped to set Kriesi apart from the rest. If you haven't seen Kriesi's work, check out his ThemeForest and CodeCanyon portfolios to see what Kriesi has to offer! A massive congratulations to Kriesi from the Envato team, and we wish him his best on the way to the Power Elite levels!

Jesus ... $750,000 worth of premium WordPress themes and PHP codes. Envato actually added some new tiers to their seller levels, in honour of this guy.

I'd love a WF moderator to approach this guy for a Q&A, see about how he handles the business end (ie. outsourcing grunt code/support/etc., from where he draws inspiration, how does he manage customer contact with that many customers, etc.)

from what i understand, its on a tiered structure or something, i don't think he got all 750k, i think the highest you can get is 50% of the sale.

if you're looking for good reviews on upstarts, etc - Mixergy.com is good; there is a video interview with the guy from 37 signals (basecamp app, etc), and other web development entrepeneurs.

Nonetheless, i wouldnt mind coding up a wp theme and slappin it on the market, see what id get for it.

So many sales on WP themes that are very 'minimal', which is just easier..lol

I can code pretty damn good, but my design skills are PACE LATTIN so I've bought some and adapted them to what I needed. Nothing WP related, but it with a little bit of elbow grease it was easy to make it a generic HTML theme.
