If you wanted to, what type of fastfood 'niche' would you be interested in becoming a franchisee?

Mexican Food -- eg. Taco Bell, Del Taco
"Lite" Mexican -- Baja grill etc
Burgers and fries
Fried Chicken
Mediteranean
Gyros/Shwarma
Phillly cheese steaks
Sandwiches -- eg. Subway or Quiznos
Pizza & Pasta

or anything you'd care to add to the list.

My wife and I have been thinking of becoming franchisees of H.Salt Fish & Chips. I personally love fish & chips and decent fish & chip shops are pretty scarce here in the Philippines. One alternative chain is Fish & Co but the pricing is kinda out of reach of the average working middleclass person.

Dunno about the Philippines, but I think healthy food demand is increasing a lot in europe and the us.
So I'd definately go down that road if I was opening a food shop. I probably wouldnt go with a franchise though, just create my own brand.

I always heard from people that bought franchises that it's just like buying yourself an 80 hour per week job. Doesn't sound very, er...appetizing.

in-n-out is privately own and has no franchising options (which is a good thing cuz other quality would suck)... now that the granddaughter controls in-n-out, they might do some major expansion and allow franchising (which would suck in terms of quality control)

in and out, no doubt, nice and easy, like 7 items in the whole inventory, oh yeah and the best burgers

Hell YEAH! Back in college, the closest In N Out to school was in Kettlemen(sp?) City, so we'd drive a long ass way just to fill up on some In N Out. Others (haters) would call it stupidity, we call it a PILGRIMAGE. In N Out = awesome burgers. Tommy's chili burgers are cool too.

baja grill or coffee shops.
I dont know about the phillipines but theres this weird health awareness movement here that you dont want to fuck with some ordinary burger joint.
Just a feeling.

shit, if I lived in the philipines I would buy myself an island for 400k

Island in Quezon, Palawan For Sale (Code: IS-508) - Quezon, Palawan, Philippines

20million php = 400kish

Sure, that's the price of the island itself. However, if you factor in the bribes you need to pay to local officials, cost of litigation later when someone (or the government through its countless "land reform" schemes) tries to "appropriate" your land, squatters, and other "hidden costs", it is probably not worth it :anon.sml:

I would do Sandwiches, Look at the success of subway. A lot of Americans are willing to by expensive subs as long as there 'low fat'. Best way to make money.

Depends on what's lacking where you are. Here in Chicago there's no Papa Johns in city limits but tons of people who moved in from the burbs or other cities in the midwest who already love Papa Johns. Open whatever people are wanting in the Philippines.

Papa John's kicks ass. It's probably the best delivered pizza out there. At least in my opinion.
